American Express has launched a new limited-time offer on its lineup of Delta Skymiles personal credit cards. The higher-than-normal welcome bonuses are available through April 3, 2019.

The standout of the group is probably the Platinum Delta Amex card, which tops the previous all-time-best offer of 70,000 Skymiles. When you consider the $100 statement credit and companion certificate, this is a great time to pick up the card. To help you decide if one of these offers is a good fit, we've highlighted the benefits for each Delta card below.

Remember, you're eligible to receive the welcome bonus on each card once per lifetime.  For example, receiving the bonus on the Gold Delta Amex does not prevent you from receiving the bonus on the Platinum Delta Amex or the Delta Reserve.

This is the best Skymiles credit card if you only fly Delta a few times per year. Highlights include the first checked bag free, priority boarding, and the annual fee waived for the first year. And, unlike the free bag benefit on the United co-brand cards, you don't need to pay for the flight with your Gold Delta Amex to receive free checked bags; you can pay with any card and still receive the benefit just for being a cardholder.

If you're in pursuit of Delta Medallion Status, the Platinum Delta Amex offers the majority of Delta Reserve benefits, minus SkyClub lounge access. You can still earn bonus miles and MQMs on card spend, plus cardholders receive an annual domestic Main Cabin Companion Certificate valid for round-trip travel on Delta. The primary difference between the Delta Platinum and Reserve cards is the Platinum Delta Amex lacks the SkyClub lounge access benefits provided by the Delta Reserve.

The Rolls Royce of Delta cards, the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express serves up complimentary Delta SkyClub access, and features an annual fee that is less than the cost of paid annual SkyClub memberships ($545). The Companion Certificate also receives an upgrade from its Platinum stablemate, redeemable for a round-trip domestic First Class, Delta Comfort+, or Main Cabin companion fare.

If you currently hold The Platinum Card® from American Express, which provides SkyClub access as part of its extensive lounge benefits, you will likely acheive greater value applying for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express, as the SkyClub access offered on the Delta Reserve becomes a surplus benefit.

Final Thoughts

The increased welcome bonuses on the Delta consumer cards are some of the best we've seen offered on these cards, providing a ton of value well in excess of the annual fees paid, particularly on the Gold Delta Amex which features a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95. You receive an increased welcome offer, plus all the perks and benefits, without any out of pocket expense for the first year.

Regardless of your airline preference, any time a 50,000+ bonus is available you should look at your travel goals and see if they line up — Remember, while it's not the best use of your miles, when award bookings are slim you can always use Delta's Pay with Miles option, available to SkyMiles credit card holders, where you'll get a penny per mile, starting at just 5,000 miles. With that, you'd be looking to redeem at least $600 in travel with Delta on any of these cards.
