From airline partnerships to an extensive list of point transfer options, British Airways and its Avios-centric Executive Club loyalty program offer members significant value — even if you're not a regular British Airways flyer. To extract this value, you'll need to familiarize yourself with British Airways' many partners, and that's where this post comes in.

British Airways' Airline Partners
British Airways has a long list of airline partners, providing connectivity and value for those who travel across the world and want to earn Avios in the process.
International Airlines Group (IAG) partners
The International Airlines Group owns British Airways along with a handful of different airlines, including:
- Iberia
- Vueling
- Aer Lingus
- LEVEL
IAG also owns the Avios rewards program — the mileage currency shared by British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar Airways. What's most significant about the joint Avios currency is that you can move the Avios earned on one airline to the loyalty account of another, opening up the doors to pool enough points to make a redemption.

You also earn Avios on Vueling and LEVEL flights, but note the following quirks:
- You can transfer the Avios earned on Vueling to British Airways Club through Avios.com. However, this platform no longer works properly, so your mileage may vary. And it's worth noting that you can't redeem British Airways Avios for Vueling flights, but you can combine your Vueling Avios with your Iberia Avios in a joint wallet and then make redemptions on either carrier.
- You'll only earn Avios on LEVEL if you book a cash ticket through Iberia. You can then transfer your Avios to the British Airways Club.
Oneworld partners
British Airways belongs to the Oneworld alliance, which currently has 13 airline partners. The number of member airlines makes Oneworld the third-largest airline alliance behind Star Alliance and SkyTeam. That said, Oneworld is often touted as the most valuable alliance due to the benefits of Oneworld elite status.

Oneworld members include:
- Alaska Airlines
- American Airlines
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Finnair
- Iberia
- Japan Airlines
- Malaysia Airlines
- Qantas
- Qatar Airways
- Royal Air Maroc
- Royal Jordanian
- SriLankan Airlines
- Fiji Airways — Oneworld Connect member
In 2025, travelers can expect Fiji Airways to become a full-time Oneworld member. Oman Air is also expected to join Oneworld around that time.
Non-alliance partners
British Airways also partners with two airlines that don't belong to Oneworld: China Southern and LATAM. Additionally, British Airways partners with an independent Scandinavian airline, SUN-AIR.
You'll also find that British Airways has a unique list of codeshare partners that offer travelers opportunities to travel outside of BA's route map. Codeshare partners include:
- Aer Lingus
- airBaltic
- Airlink
- Bangkok Airways
- China Southern
- Fiji Airways
- IndiGo
- JetBlue
- Kenya Airways
- Loganair
- Vistara
- Vueling
Earning British Airways Avios With Partner Airlines
One of the easiest ways to earn a stash of Avios is to fly on one of British Airways' many partner airlines. Depending on the airline you fly, you'll earn Avios based on the distance flown or the Great British Pounds you spent on your ticket, cabin upgrades, extra baggage, and more. Additionally, you also can earn Tier Points on select partners to help you qualify for British Airways Club elite status.

Here's a snapshot of how you'll earn when you fly a partner airline:
Airline | Earning Structure | Collect Tier Points? |
---|---|---|
Aer Lingus | Distance-based | Yes |
Alaska Airlines | Distance-based | Yes |
American Airlines | Revenue-based (Earn 6-9 Avios per GBP spent) | Yes |
Cathay Pacific | Distance-based | Yes |
China Southern | Distance-based | No |
Fiji Airways | Distance-based | Yes |
Finnair | Distance-based | Yes |
Iberia | Revenue-based (Earn 5-8 Avios per GBP spent) | Yes |
Japan Airlines | Distance-based | Yes |
LATAM | Distance-based | No |
Malaysia Airlines | Distance-based | Yes |
Qantas | Distance-based | Yes |
Qatar Airways | Distance-based | Yes |
Royal Air Maroc | Distance-based | Yes |
Royal Jordanian | Distance-based | Yes |
SriLankan Airlines | Distance-based | Yes |
Unfortunately, no two airlines earn the same. You'll want to consult British Airways' earning page to confirm how you'll earn Avios before you fly to avoid any surprises when the Avios post to your account.
Earning British Airways Avios Through Credit Card and Point Transfer Partners
Outside of flying on British Airways or a partner airline, you can earn Avios by swiping co-branded credit cards, converting transferable points to Avios, swapping your hotel points for British Airways Avios, or purchasing items at duty free.

For U.S.-based travelers, the option for British Airways credit cards is limited to one Chase-issued product. Enter the British Airways Visa Signature® Card.

Other Avios-earning credit cards
Although these two cards won't show the British Airways logo on the front, you can earn Avios by applying for and carrying the Chase-issued Aer Lingus Visa Signature® Card or the Iberia Visa Signature® Card. Each carries a $95 annual fee.
You can convert the Avios earned on either card to British Airways Avios by moving your points between airline loyalty accounts online. Even better, there's no cost to do so.

British Airways transfer partners

The most common credit card transfer partners — like American Express, Capital One, Chase, and Bilt — offer favorable 1:1 ratios. As a cherry on top, issuers routinely offer transfer bonuses to the British Airways Club.
A large number of partners means there are dozens of credit cards that can help you earn enough points to fund your next vacation. Some top options for consumer credit cards include:

British Airways hotel partners
Although it's not a recommended use of points, you can convert various hotel currencies to British Airways Avios. Poor transfer ratios make this one of the lowest-return uses of your hotel points. You'll get more mileage out of your hotel points in virtually every instance by booking award stays.
Other partner earning options
It's also possible to earn Avios from Airbnb rentals, hotel stays, vacation packages, rental cars, Heathrow Rewards, and even shopping. Earning rates vary, but there's no shortage of choices.

British Airways partner award charts
British Airways also doesn't publish an official award chart for flights operated by a single partner airline. Since removing its published award chart, British Airways has tweaked award pricing for seemingly every partner, creating almost a dozen individual partner award charts. And it's devalued several of these charts along the way — sometimes doing so a couple of times over.
But for partner flights on American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, here's what you can expect to pay:
Distance/Zone | Economy | Premium Economy (on select flights to Hawaii/Alaska) | Business (Domestic First) | First (On 3-Cabin Flights) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Up to 650 miles (Zone 1) | 12,000 | N/A | 24,000 | N/A |
Up to 1,151 miles (Zones 2) | 16,000 | N/A | 32,000 | N/A |
1,152 to 2,000 miles (Zone 3) | 18,000 | N/A | 40,000 | N/A |
2,001 to 3,000 miles (Zone 4) | 20,000 | 40,000 | 50,000 | 80,000 |
3,001 to 4,000 miles (Zone 5) | 20,750 | 41,250 | 62,000 | 82,500 |
Avios redemptions on Cathay Pacific follow this chart instead:
Flight distance (miles) | Economy | Premium Economy | Business |
---|---|---|---|
1-650 | 9,750 | 14,300 | 20,800 |
651-1,151 | 12,000 | 21,600 | 30,000 |
1,152-2,000 | 14,300 | 23,400 | 32,500 |
2,001-3,000 | 15,600 | 30,900 | 46,500 |
3,001-4,000 | 20,750 | 41,250 | 77,250 |
LATAM awards booked with British Airways Avios are priced according to this table:
Flight distance (miles) | Economy | Premium Economy | Business |
---|---|---|---|
1-650 | 8,500 | 12,500 | N/A |
651-1,151 | 13,500 | N/A | 24,750 |
1,152-2,000 | 15,500 | 23,000 | 30,750 |
2,001-3,000 | 17,000 | N/A | 50,500 |
3,001-4,000 | 31,250 | 62,000 | 93,000 |
And, yes, there's a separate chart for Qantas as well:
Flight distance (miles) | Economy | Premium Economy | Business |
---|---|---|---|
1-650 | 6,000 | N/A | 12,500 |
651-1,151 | 9,000 | 16,500 | 16,500 |
1,152-2,000 | 11,000 | N/A | 22,000 |
2,001-3,000 | 13,000 | N/A | 38,750 |
3,001-4,000 | 20,750 | N/A | 62,000 |
There's another British Airways award chart for Qatar Airways, too. The point is that there are a lot of charts; the confusion is likely by design, which is frustrating if you're a traveler who just wants to redeem their Avios for the best value possible.

British Airways multi-carrier award chart
But wait, there's more. If your award travel plans involve flying two or more Oneworld carriers, you'll need to reference a separate chart. For these flights, the number of Avios you'll redeem is dependent on the total distance of your trip — whether your itinerary is one-way or round-trip.
Trip Distance | Economy | Premium Economy | Business | First |
---|---|---|---|---|
0–1,500 | 30,000 | 45,000 | 60,000 | 90,000 |
1,501–4,000 | 35,000 | 52,500 | 70,000 | 105,000 |
4,001–9,000 | 60,000 | 90,000 | 120,000 | 180,000 |
9,001–10,000 | 70,000 | 105,000 | 140,000 | 210,000 |
10,001–14,000 | 90,000 | 135,000 | 180,000 | 270,000 |
14,001–20,000 | 100,000 | 150,000 | 200,000 | 300,000 |
20,001–25,000 | 120,000 | 180,000 | 240,000 | 360,000 |
Bear in mind that British Airways can levy some astronomical fuel surcharges on award tickets, and these can easily tack hundreds to thousands of dollars onto your trip.
