As we start planning to travel again, we wanted to revisit one of the great ways to double-dip on travel purchases. British Airways Executive Club members can earn Avios on all Airbnb purchases.

You can earn 3 Avios per £1 / $1 / €1 spent — whether you're booking a stay or Airbnb Experiences.

Earn Avios by staying with Airbnb

Key Terms

  • Airbnb stays: earn 3 Avios per £1 / $1 / €1 spent
  • Airbnb Experiences: earn 3 Avios per £1 spent
  • Bookings must be made through the dedicated British Airways Airbnb page
  • You need to enter your Executive Club number when making a booking
  • You must have cookies enabled, and the booking needs to be completed in one session
  • Allow up to 60 days for the earned Avios to post to your British Airways account

If you're a regular Airbnb user, then this link-up can be very lucrative.

How to earn Avios on an Airbnb booking

Making a booking that is eligible to earn Avios is easy:

  • Make sure cookies are enabled on your browser.
  • Head over to the Airbnb affiliate page and enter your BA Executive Club number.
  • You will then be taken to the Airbnb site where you can search for accommodation and make your booking.

Avios Transfer Partners

In addition to earning Avios from Airbnb stays, you can top off your British Airways Executive Club account by transferring points from bank programs. Members can transfer American Express Membership Rewards and/or Chase Ultimate Rewards to British Airways Avios at a ratio of 1:1 and typically occur instantaneously.

This means the points earned from the The Platinum Card® from American Express and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® amongst others can be transferred to get you closer to your next Avios award.

Or, you can transfer Capital One Venture Miles to British Airways at a 4:3 transfer ratio — which will be temporarily improved to 1:1 in August 2021.

You can also transfer Marriott points to British Airways Avios at a ratio of 3:1. However, if you transfer 60,000 points, you will receive an additional 5,000 Avios bonus. So transferring 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points would yield 25,000 Avios.

Our Take

This relationship is a great bonus for Airbnb users that want to boost their Avios balance in between flights. In addition to earning bonus Avios from this promotion, you can also earn a credit card spending category bonus when you pay for your booking.

So, if you use the Sapphire Reserve card to make a booking, you will still earn 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent. That's in addition to the 3X Avios for booking that you can earn through the British Airways partnership. If you are into Avios, you can transfer those Ultimate Rewards to Avios to effectively earn 6X Avios on Airbnb stays. That's a great deal for those that know how to maximize British Airways Avios.

  • This is great! Good move for Airbnb to have some sort of collaboration with loyalty programs to compete with hotel chains. Hope there will be more partners in the future!

  • I never have any luck with Avios points and bookings, but this has got me wondering if it’s worth a shot

  • This is very useful information, it is always good for companies to facilitate the exchange of plans, I think a win to win

  • Which airlines programs , besides BA, does it allow people to accrue points or miles through Airbnb stays?

  • For me being stateside, I would rather get Delta skymiles instead of British airways avios miles.

  • You learn something new every day!

Didn’t even know that this was a thing!

    Thank you!

Just used this perk, paid with my AA Santander card so I earned both, miles in AA for the purchase and 6x Avios!

  • I wonder if when booking from another country, you’d be charged in pounds or if you could switch to your local currency

  • Just learned this! Opening up the range on how you can earn more Avios, and letting AirBnB will be very usefull for any of my future stays.
Thank you for the advise on waiting to use this promo, when you have a great booking with AirBNb to maximize the avios earned.
One question I have, why do you alert on Cookies so much? Cookies must be enabled, and the booking needs to be completed in one session
    Thank you again.

    • We want to make sure you don’t miss out a big bonus just because you’re using an incognito browser window or cookie-blocking software!

    • Yes, @Matias, it’s the cookie that carries the info that tells AirBnB that you came from the British Airways site, distinguishing you from a standard customer that goes right to AirBnB directly. That way, BA gets credit for referring you to AirBnB and then we essentially get our portion of that credit as well. Without the cookie, block the cookie, and there will be no communication between the sites and parties.

  • BA points are great for short haul flights in the US: high dollar costs and low taxes!

  • I have always used the Delta partnership to book Air BnB but I should think about this possibility. Avios are probably more useful than Skymiles. I will likely have a fairly expensive AirBnB stay for work over Christmas and New Years this year (in a town that has very limited hotels, so no option but AirBnB) so that stay might be the perfect time to make the switch from Delta and maximize the Avios earning.

  • Exactly good promo, have one more way to get Avios not expire. But i am stay US, seems can’t take part this promo.

  • This is handy! I was just getting ready to book in Milos.

  • It’s a good news to extend my account miles. I am prepare to book Airbnb next month to Italy.

  • This is actually good. I didn’t know airbnb was a partner with any airline. It gives me somewhere to earn points next time I use it.

  • If only I had known about this last week!!!!!! Just missed out. Grrrrr.

  • Wish they would have done this earlier when I booked Airbnb’s for the last 5 months, but good to know now!

  • It is great for Airbnb users to get more awards and rewards for their bookings.

  • This offer is extremely valuable for the UK-based travelers.

  • Love a further opportunity to earn more Avios. They are a currency that’s underrated and under utilised by many, While it’s always great to be able to earn additional miles/points in any currency, it’s not enough to convince me it’s worth bothering with AirBnb!

  • This is also available with delta airlines. No stays in the future for me until the end of this virus.

  • Thanks, this is a great/ it is also an easy way to extend Avios expiration.

  • Another earning channel is highly welcomed.

Good news, but does the Chinese account available?

  • Nuno Machado says:

I didn’t even know about this partnership! Thanks for sharing!
