IHG has announced a 100% bonus on points purchases through October 31, 2018. To receive the maximum bonus, you will need to purchase a minimum of 30,000 points. Fortunately, there is plenty of time to properly plan and decide how best to take advantage of this promotion.

IHG prices its points at 1 cent apiece regardless of how many you purchase. Buying 50,000 or 100,000 points would cost you $500 or $1,000 respectively. Purchasing 100,000 points, you would receive a further 100,000-point bonus for a total outlay of $1,000, which works out at 0.5 cents apiece.

Maximizing The Promotion

IHG point purchases are processed by, so there is no opportunity to earn any category bonus spending from your credit card. If you do go ahead with the promotion, you will maximize your value by using a credit card optimized for everyday spending.

Our Take

If you leverage your points wisely, there is plenty of value to be had with this promotion. Using the points with the IHG PointBreaks promotion, you can book nights at some Intercontinental properties from 15,000 or 10,000 points per night. This means you are effectively paying $75 or $50 respectively for a night at an Intercontinental property; this beats paying cash any day!
