We’ve seen plenty of 100K+ welcome offers come across the desk at AwardWallet this year, but few can boast the same value as the current offer on The Business Platinum® Card from American Express.

Right now, new cardmembers of the Business Platinum Card can land up to 100,000 Membership Rewards points after meeting a tiered minimum spend. Also included with the card is one year of Platinum Global Access from WeWork. The WeWork membership provides access to 300+ workplaces in 75+ countries. To get this exclusive offer, enroll between 2/15/2019 and 12/31/2019. (Terms Apply)

Typically, tiered welcome offers are split over short- and long-term spending thresholds, but the offer on the Business Platinum Card requires the full $25K minimum spend to be completed in the first 3 months. While the spend is significant, this is an excellent offer for businesses that won't have trouble meeting the requirement.

Including points earned from the initial $25K spent, you’ll receive 125,000 Membership Rewards points with this welcome bonus—more than enough for a jaunt in Singapore Airlines' coveted first-class suites flying New York to Singapore, or a round-trip business class award to Japan on ANA with 40K points left in your account for future travels!

If you can take advantage of Amex's regular transfer bonuses, you could potentially turn those 125,000 Membership Rewards points into 175,000 airline miles. For example, through the end of October, Amex is offering a 40% bonus when you transfer to British Airways Executive Club. Although you won't be able to earn the bonus in time for the BA deal, Amex consistently offers bonus miles on transfers to select partner programs.

Recap of Business Platinum Card Perks and Benefits

We consider the Business Platinum Card one of the best (if not THE best) premium rewards cards available to business owners, particularly when paired with other Membership Rewards earning cards like The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express. In addition to the high-value welcome offer, cardholders can enjoy premium benefits and travel perks, including:

  • $200 annual airline incidentals credit
  • Access to over 1,000 lounges worldwide including Centurion Lounges, Delta Sky Club (when flying Delta), international American Express Lounges, a Priority Pass Select membership, and many more
  • Complimentary elite status with multiple loyalty programs including Hilton Honors and Marriott Rewards
  • 5X points on flights and prepaid hotels on amextravel.com.
  • 50% bonus points (1.5x points per dollar) on eligible purchases of $5,000+, up to 1 million points per year
  • 35% bonus when using Pay with Points to cover airfare on your selected airline, and all first and business class flights with any airline available through Amex Travel, up to 500K points per year

  • Complimentary Boingo service and GoGo Wi-Fi passes
  • No foreign transaction fees (Rates & Fees)

Transfer Membership Rewards to Travel Partners to Maximize Value

The Business Platinum Card is unique in that you receive a 35% bonus when using Pay with Points to purchase airfare on your selected airline, or for any first- or business-class tickets purchased through Amex Travel. But you can achieve even higher value by transferring Membership Rewards to 19 different airline partners and 3 hotel partners.

Travel partners providing top redemption options include:

Each program offers a variety of award sweet spots, yes, even the humble Choice Privileges program when you redeem in the right locations (think Japan and Northern Europe/Scandinavia). Here are five of our favorite transfer & redemption strategies for Membership Rewards.

Application Restrictions

American Express only allows you to earn a welcome bonus ‘once per card, per lifetime.'

“Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

Thankfully, Amex introduced a handy tool that will notify you whether you qualify to receive the bonus before processing your application.

Final Thoughts

While the $25K initial spend will put this bonus out of reach for some businesses, a pace of just over $2,000 per week is within reach for many. If your company makes large transactions over $5,000, you’ll benefit from a 50% bonus on those purchases (1.5X points per dollar spent), helping you pile up even more rewards as you work towards your welcome bonus.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a six-figure welcome bonus on any Membership Rewards card, so this is a great time to apply for the Business Platinum Card. However, it's never a good idea to spend more than necessary, just to earn a bonus. The Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card is a great alternative with a lower annual fee and more reasonable spend to earn the new cardmember bonus.

  • This is a great promotion I’ve been waiting for. It is the max bonus I’ve seen for this card. A lot of uses for American Express reward points as pointed out in the excellent article.

  • The bonus points on purchases over $5000 is very clever! I don’t think I’ve seen such a perk on other business cards.

  • I know the personal Plat card is a charge card. Is the business version a charge card as well?

  • Wow that’s a pretty steep spending requirement.
I realize 100K points is a lot, but IMHO the spending requirement is too much for 100K points.
One could earn a lot more points by signing up for other cards and spending that amount of money.

  • Sadly, I don’t run a business. Or else, this sounds like an amazing offer!!!

  • Steven William Van Meter says:

So, if my company makes large transactions over $5,000, I’ll benefit from a 50% bonus on those purchases. Not too shabby

  • This kind of offers are simply non-existing in Europe!

  • I recommend Frequent Miler’s very comprehensive evaluation of Membership Rewards sweet spots to those on the fence about this offer. They make a compelling case that it’s the best transferable points currency out there. (Personally, I’m still partial to Ultimate Rewards, but I’m now actively trying to build up my MR balance as well.)

  • Now that you can’t get gift cards with the credit, I find it difficult to get value from the card.

  • I love my business platinum card! I got it when there was a 100K bonus. This one is better, but I wouldn’t have been able to make the high minumum spend in three months. I consider the trifecta of the Business Platinum card, my personal Gold card, and the Blue for Business card as the best way to earn benefits for travel.

  • looks like it is time to get the biz card….100k miles is hard to beat

  • Great promo. But that $125k spend is a bit of a reach. One day, I will be able to get to that a level.

  • Great offer, but wow is that a lot of spend in 3 months – especially having to be careful of MS being thrown out.

  • I will have to look into the tricfecta. Although the qualifying spend in the first three months would be difficult for me for sure.

  • I applied for an Amex Everyday card and my experience with that makes me wary of applying for any other Amex.
I had declined the form for application to continue because it said that I hadn’t qualified for the bonus. About 6mons later I decided to continue with it and was approved for the card and still didn’t get the bonus points for MR.

When I called in about possibly getting the 10K, a girl said that there was no reason why I should have been declined and that as goodwill to give me 7500. Not happy about not getting the 10K but hey ok I’ll take it. When it never posted to my account I called back and they said they didnt have any record of it but that since I was a good customer they wouldn’t do a call verifcation and give me the 7500 this other person said they’d give me. It posted the next day.

I like that they quickly fixed a problem but they said that I had declined getting the bonus! Why would someone do that? At least I got something but it has really made Amex a sour taste in my mouth. How would you have handled this?

  • This is certainly a great offer for anyone who has been waiting to apply for the biz card. Sadly, i have the personal one and don’t have enough spending to justify both.

  • Is it just me or are 100K sign up bonuses becoming a new norm? Not that I’m complaining!

  • The value of 100k points is not to be underestimated. That’s enough for 4 domestic round trips on Delta.

  • Just cant hit that 25K spend in 3 months.

  • $595 Annual fee and 25K spend in 3 months makes it a not so great deal.

  • Tim Cathcart says:

that is a hefy annual fee… with enough annual spend one could justify the card for sure.
