Flying Blue has launched a new set of Promo Rewards for travel between February 1 and March 31, 2019. This month, Seattle is the only U.S. city featured, but there are some great deals to Europe from Canada and Mexico City. Bookings must be made by December 30th, to qualify for the discounted mileage requirement. Often, the best destinations sell out quickly, so make sure to confirm your plans as soon as possible.

Options For North America

This month, all the awards from North America and Mexico to Europe are in Business class, which is great if you are looking for premium-cabin award space. Most routes are discounted by 25%, including Seattle, but Mexico City is the gem of this month’s Promo Rewards with 50% off the normal mileage requirement.

  • Mexico to Europe in Business: 50% discount
  • Seattle to Europe in Business: 25% discount
  • Montreal to Europe in Business: 25% discount
  • Vancouver to Europe in Business: 25% discount
  • Edmonton to Europe in Business: 25% discount

Other Global Destinations

It comes as no surprise that there are some excellent opportunities for travel from Europe to other worldwide destinations.  The following cities all benefit from a 50% discount this month:

  • Taipei, Taiwan in Premium Economy
  • Beirut, Lebanon in Business
  • Antananarivo, Madagascar in Premium Economy

Within Europe, there are various options, with some routes discounted by up to 40%.

How To Work Out The Cost Of Your Award

Flying Blue has developed an award calculator to calculate how many miles your ticket will cost. The calculator gives the standard pricing for the award, and then you need to discount the figure by the percentage offered in the Flying Blue promo reward.

For instance, Mexico to Paris will typically set you back 65,000 miles one-way in Business. With the current discount of 50%, you would need 32,500 miles for a one-way award ticket in Business.

FlyingBlue Miles Price Estimator

Due to the changes made to the Flying Blue Promo Rewards in June 2018, you can't get the discount on connecting itineraries to other European cities beyond Paris and Amsterdam. If there is another Promo Reward from Paris or Amsterdam to your final destination, you'll need to book that as a separate award ticket to get the discount on both parts of your journey.

Key Points To Remember

  • Flights need to be booked by December 30, 2018
  • Bookings only valid if made via; phone bookings are not possible
  • Tickets cannot be canceled, changed, or refunded

Flying Blue Transfer Partners

If you are short a few miles, Flying Blue has a well-developed partnership with all four major transferable points programs. Capital One also recently announced they'll be launching transfers to 12 airline partners, including FlyingBlue, in December 2018.

Our Take

If you are looking for premium cabin awards, this month’s Flying Blue Promo Rewards is a win. There are multiple options from North America to Europe, and all are in Business class. While it is disappointing that there is only one US destination, there are several in Canada, and the 50% discount from Mexico City makes that route a real bargain.
