The Uber/SPG partnership has officially ended. You will no longer earn SPG points for travel with Uber.
The SPG journey with Uber is coming to an end on December 17, 2017. That will be the last day you can earn Starpoints for Uber rides. The partnership which has lasted for three years struggled recently when SPG cut the earning rates as of February 1, 2017. Until the partnership ends you will still be able to earn points at the following rates:
- 1 Starpoint per $1 spent when you are staying at an SPG property
- 1 Starpoint per $2 spent with Uber at other times
If you have noticed that points have not posted to your SPG account from recent rides, there is no need to worry. SPG has not jumped the gun; there is a minor IT glitch which should be sorted out soon.
Overall
The end of this partnership is a bit of a bummer, given how difficult in general it is to earn SPG points. Of all the Uber partnerships the one with SPG was by far the most valuable.

I’m not surprised. I wish Uber partner with someone else.
Any other method of earning miles or points through UBER?
It was a good concept but the decrease in value no longer made it worthwhile. Lately I have been using Lyft a lot more.
It was a good bonus while it lasted.
I loved this, but didn’t really see the value for SPG. Doubt it was gaining them more customers. I think Uber had to be getting a lot of rides from SPG customers b/c of the relationship. I bet b/c of the bad press Uber has had and the lack of value for SPG, SPG didn’t want to renew.
I’ll use Uber for my monthly AMEX credits, but I preferred lyft previously. I find the fares cheaper and the drivers are better imo. I will switch back to Lyft to earn on Delta and Jetblue.
As lucrative as this is, I’m glad they’re breaking off the partnership with Uber! That company has had some problems.
Shame. It was a brilliant idea when they introduced the program but it became less interesting when they halved the earnings though.
I wonder if this was Uber driven or Marriott driven. Seems like a bad thing for Uber at the moment given the negative publicity they have received, and the increase in competitive platforms (Lyft etc).
There’s still Delta and Lyft.
Well guess I’m not going to be riding uber anymore now.
seriously? You’re going to stop riding uber because of the SPG partnership ending? Seems a bit short-sighted.
I didn’t even know about this partnership until now. I guess that I missed out.
Such a shame that this is coming to an end.
To be honest I never earn that many points from Uber, but it was a nice bonus. Sad to see it go.
It seems to take them forever to post the points after the Uber ride.
My last two transactions posted inside a week.
This makes me sad. I’m a big Uber user and I’ve reaped some points using Uber. Maybe another company will pick up on it. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
