Did you know you can earn 3X United MileagePlus miles on Vrbo stays? This is a partnership we haven't mentioned previously on AwardWallet, but it's definitely a promotion worth considering. Here are the details.
United and Vrbo Partnership
United Airlines partnered with Vrbo in late 2021 to offer MileagePlus members 3X United miles on Vrbo stays. To earn miles on Vrbo rentals, members need to book through the United/Vrbo booking portal and enter their MileagePlus number at the time of booking. 3X United miles isn't a lot, but it's an opportunity to double-dip your earnings, so its a win. You don't need to use a United credit card — only provide your United membership number.
Members receive 3X miles on the base rate of the Vrbo rental only. Taxes, cleaning fees, property damage protection, and any other fees do not earn miles. Bonus miles should post to the member's MileagePlus account within 6–8 weeks.
The only other airline that partners with Vrbo is Alaska, and you only get 1X Alaska miles with Vrbo bookings. However, there are some credit cards that sometimes give cash back on Vrbo rentals. Check Cashback Monitor to see if there are any at the time of your booking.
Our Take
The United/Vrbo booking portal is available in several countries, but we've seen previous promotions to earn extra miles that applied only to U.S. bookings.
For members who moved away from Hotels.com after the recent devaluation of its loyalty program (which it now shares with Vrbo), this could be a decent alternative to double-dip on rental property stays. Vrbo is part of the HomeAway family, which has over 2 million properties across 190 countries and reported 48 million customers in 2022. Having said that, Vrbo has an average rating of about 1.5 stars across ConsumerAffairs, TrustPilot, SiteJabber, and Yelp. Ensure you know what you're getting before making a booking. If a rental home property is in your upcoming plans, though, this could be a great opportunity for some extra United miles along the way.
Will you be double-dipping on your Vrbo stays to earn more United miles?
