This month’s Flying Blue Promo Awards are out, and even after the disappointing devaluation last month there is still some great deals to be had. This month almost every award is discounted by 50%, and bookings must be made by July 31, 2018. Travel dates for most routes in this month’s promotion are between September 1 and October 31, 2018.

Options For North America

This month all awards to the US are in Economy, while the only Canadian route is in Premium Economy. All routes are discounted by 50%. The destinations to North America are as follows:

  • Washington, Dulles International (IAD) from Paris and Amsterdam
  • Houston, George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) from Paris and Amsterdam
  • Montreal, Pierre Elliott Trudeau International (YUL) from Paris

Other Global Destinations

When it comes to global destinations this month’s Promo Awards are very generous compared to previous months. There are multiple destinations in the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, the Caribbean and Central & South America. This month all destinations are discounted by 50%, except for some in Europe which have a smaller discount.

How To Work Out The Cost Of Your Award

Flying Blue has developed an award calculator to indicate how many miles the award will cost. The calculator gives the standard pricing for the award, and then you will need to discount the figure by the percentage offered in the Flying Blue promo award. For instance, Paris to Washington with Air France will normally set you back 27,500 miles one-way in Economy. With a promo award discount of 50%, you would need only 13,750 miles for a one-way promo award in Economy!

Following from the changes made to Flying Blue Promo Awards in June 2018, you now cannot make connections and still benefit from the award, and you cannot use two promo award destinations and benefit from cumulative pricing.

Key Points To Remember

  • Flights need to be booked by July 31, 2018
  • Bookings only valid if made via or; phone bookings are not possible
  • Tickets cannot be canceled, changed, or refunded

Our Take

Historically the Flying Blue Promo Awards are hit and miss, but since the devaluation and the severe restrictions on the awards Flying Blue seems to have increased the number of routes available, and also is offering far more awards with a 50% discount. Even though the awards have lost some of their value unless you want to head directly to Paris or Amsterdam, if you do want to travel to the Flying Blue Hubs then there is a great value to be had.
