It's not every day that we get a first-ever transfer bonus — but today is one of those days. Preferred Hotels' I Prefer program is a relatively new Capital One transfer partner, having just been added in September 2025. Now, Capital One has launched a new 30% transfer bonus to Preferred Hotels.
Capital One is famous for having obscure-but-valuable transfer partners. But is it worth transferring your Capital One miles to Preferred Hotels during this transfer bonus? Let's dive in.

Capital One to Preferred Hotels Transfer Bonus Key Terms
- The promotion is valid for transfers through April 1, 2026, at 4:59 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time.
- Receive a 30% bonus when you transfer Capital One miles to Preferred Hotels and Resorts.
- Capital One miles typically transfer to I Prefer at a 1:2 ratio — meaning you'll receive double the number of miles transferred.
- With this transfer bonus, you'll receive 2,600 I Prefer points for every 1,000 Capital One miles you transfer.
- You must transfer at least 1,000 miles, but then in increments of 100 Capital One miles.

Is It Worth Transferring Capital One Miles to I Prefer Points?
Let's be frank: Preferred Hotels points aren't that valuable. In recent AwardWallet testing, we found that I Prefer points are only worth around 0.2 cents per point. At that rate, you can only expect to get around half a cent per point in value for every Capital One mile transferred during this 30% transfer bonus.
You're much better off booking paid travel using your Capital One card and then redeeming points at one cent per mile to cover the cost of a hotel.
By doing so, you aren't limited to just Preferred Hotels. Plus, you can earn bonus miles for booking the stay through the Capital One Travel portal. For instance, cardholders of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card will earn 10 Miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel..

- 10X miles per $1 on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on purchases through Capital One Entertainment
- 5X miles per $1 on flights when booking via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on vacation rentals booked via Capital One Travel
- 2X miles per $1 on all other eligible purchases
With that said, you might be able to find niche value in the I Prefer program. Preferred Hotels prices all hotel nights at one of six rates:
- 15,000 points
- 30,000 points
- 50,000 points
- 75,000 points
- 100,000 points
- 150,000 points
If you're able to find an expensive night at a hotel charging a reasonable points rate, you can get good value.
Just keep in mind that Citi ThankYou Points transfer to Preferred Hotels at a standard ratio of 1:4. That's a much better deal than transferring Capital One points to I Prefer — even with this 30% transfer bonus.
I Prefer Points Expiration Policy
Before transferring your Capital One miles, it's worth being aware of Preferred Hotels' expiration policy. Your I Prefer points will expire if your account doesn't have qualifying activity for 24 months. Thankfully, you can reset this expiration date by completing an eligible stay or reward redemption.
So, make sure to factor this in before transferring your Capital One miles — which don't expire unless you close your account.
