The 2016 Rio Olympics is inching closer, and accommodation is filling up. There are still select dates available in most hotels, but you will need to get in quick if you want to enjoy the spectacle of Brazils first Olympic games.
Commencing with the opening ceremony on August 5, the tournament will run for a touch over two weeks finishing with the closing ceremony on August 21. The games will center around four hubs, Barra, Copacabana Beach, Maracanã, and Deodoro with the newly constructed Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca being the focus area.

We've put together a list of Rio’s top hotels, grouped by rewards program, to help you plan your trip. With the Olympics drawing huge crowds, accommodation will be running at peak capacity during the games. Most hotels and loyalty programs are not displaying points redemption options although they are available, and rooms rates are at a substantial premium so you will need to call the hotels directly for booking inquiries.

While some rewards programs offer limited choice in Rio, Le Club AccorHotels has a huge range of options ranging from budget to boutique and I think provides the best mix of comfort, budget, and convenience.
Bear in mind that booking accommodation for the Olympics is never going to yield a high return on your points as prices surge up to 300% during the games. Also, some hotels may not accept free nights booked on points throughout the Olympics, however, will take cash & points.
The high prices do open the door to earning a big chunk of points if you already have plans to head to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, but, make your inquiries soon as rooms are selling fast and accommodation will book out.
