One of the perks of the Capital One Travel portal is the Capital One Travel price match guarantee. If you find a cheaper price within 24 hours of booking your trip, Capital One will credit the price difference back to your account for a future booking.
This week, I finally got the chance to test this perk when booking a last-minute flight. After booking my flight, it took me less than eight minutes to claim a $78 travel credit. Here's what you need to know about the process — and limitations to — claiming a Capital One Travel price match credit.
Capital One Travel Price Match Qualification Criteria
First, you need to have an eligible Capital One credit card to use the Capital One travel portal.
If you don't have one yet, I'd recommend getting the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. In addition to earning 2 miles per dollar on every purchase, Capital One Lounge access, plus a slew of lesser-known perks, cardholders get an annual $300 travel credit for travel purchases made through Capital One Travel.
Even better, you'll earn 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel, and 2X miles on other eligible purchases
- 10X miles per $1 on hotels and rental cars booked via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on purchases through Capital One Entertainment (through 12/31/2025)
- 5X miles per $1 on flights when booking via Capital One Travel
- 5X miles per $1 on vacation rentals booked via Capital One Travel
- 2X miles per $1 on all other eligible purchases
Next, you'll need to book your flight, hotel, or rental car through Capital One Travel using that eligible Capital One card. This requirement means you'll be out-of-pocket on the full price charged by Capital One Travel; there's no way to simply book your trip at the lower price.
Finally, you'll need to find an eligible cheaper itinerary. In order to qualify, the cheaper itinerary must be:
- An exact match of your purchased itinerary (including the cancellation policy).
- Priced in US Dollars.
- Available to the general public. That means the fare can't be age-restricted or require a membership.
- Still available when you file the claim.
Once you find an eligible itinerary, you need to file a claim within 24 hours of booking your trip through Capital One Travel. Here's the step-by-step process of how to do so.
How to Submit a Capital One Travel Price Match Claim
The only way to file a Capital One Travel price match claim is over the phone. Start by calling 844-422-6922. The automated system will ask for three pieces of information before transferring you to an agent:
- Answer yes that you're a Capital One cardholder.
- Enter the last four digits of your Capital One card.
- Enter the last four digits of your social security number.
Once I'd entered these, the system connected me with a Capital One Travel agent. The agent started by asking for my name, whether I booked a flight or hotel, and then for the travel date. That was enough for him to find the booking in his system.
Next, the agent asked where I found the lower price. In this case, I found a cheaper flight through Trip.com. After confirming that Capital One “works with” Trip.com, he asked for the lower price and confirmed the price difference.
That was all that was needed for the agent to submit the claim. He confirmed that I'd see a trip credit in my Capital One Travel account in 5-10 minutes and that this credit would be valid for one year. While I didn't log in immediately, the credit was showing in my account when I logged in 30 minutes later.
In total, the call took just 7 minutes and 27 seconds. That's well worth the time it took to get $78 back!
Tips for Finding a Cheaper Flight
If you're curious how I found out that there was a cheaper price, my trick is simply using our favorite flight price tracker website: Google Flights.
Google Flights is my go-to site anytime I'm pricing out cash fares. Not only does it have an intuitive search process and powerful filters, but you can also use Chrome plugins like Legrooms for Google Flights and Points Path to further enhance the results.
Once you choose a flight option, Google Flights will show all of the booking options — including potentially dozens of Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). That's how I saw that this itinerary was available through Trip.com for $462.20 before I went to Capital One Travel to book using my Capital One Venture X travel credit.

As you'll notice in the screenshot above, this wasn't an ordinary flight — at least for U.S.-based travelers. My wife and I were flying from Cairo, Egypt to Marrakesh, Morocco.
Nerdy aside: We'd originally booked this route using 40,000 AAdvantage miles and $98 in taxes and fees. So, the option to buy the flight for $462 meant that we were effectively buying AAdvantage miles back for 0.91 cents per mile — plus earning miles on the cash fare.
If you're booking a simple domestic U.S. flight, you're unlikely to find a cheaper way to book than directly through the airline — at least that would qualify for the Capital One Travel price match. However, if you're flying an international airline or route, it's worth checking to see if there's a cheaper booking method that qualifies.
Bottom Line
The Capital One Travel price match guarantee is yet another reason for Capital One cardholders to book travel through the Capital One Travel portal. Not only will you earn bonus miles, use the Capital One Venture X travel credit, and potentially get price drop protection, but you won't have to pay more to get these benefits. If you find a cheaper price within 24 hours of booking, you can quickly and easily file a claim for the difference.
The only real catch is making sure that the cheaper itinerary qualifies for the Capital One Travel price match guarantee. If you're able to get a cheaper rate through a membership program — such as utilizing the British Airways AARP and Chase cardholder discount — you won't be able to match that price.
