Our Take

The last time we saw gas stations was in Q1, 2018, its great to see it back again since almost everyone can make use of this. Earning  5% cash back on Lyft rides, as well as purchases from Walgreens, gives enough spending diversity to let you maximize the promotion, earning $75 back on $1,500.

  • Thank you for the bonus update!

  • Where I live there’s a Walgreen’s about ten minutes from my house and across the street from there is a gas station. Our family is known to frequent both so this quarter we’re in business.

  • I find Lyft being in the list very interesting…maybe Chase and Lyft are forming some sort of a partnership?

  • I registered my account…what is everyone’s go-to purchase at Walgreens to maximize this promotion? I dont think I will have that many expenses on Lyft to max it out:)

  • Why is the registration required?

  • We find the 5% gas is a real money saver.

  • signed up! thank you!

  • Is the 5% a credit on your statement or just additional ultimate reward points?

  • Thanks for the reminder!

  • Thanks. Quite an interesting mix of bonus categories…

  • Im actually quite disappointed with these categories. Gas is always useful but Lyft and Walgreens are so specific. I use Lyft and love the fact that it earns Delta points (and possibly even JetBlue points) but it would have been better if it were “ride sharing services”. I cant remember the last time I bought something at Walgreens. Although it sells a wide variety of things, mostly they seem to be more expensive than elsewhere. I definitely regret they didnt include Chase Pay again. Like a previous poster, I am very interested to know if there are ítems at Walgreens that can be used to max out this category without paying a premium.

  • Thanks for the kind reminder!

The gas will be nice for my wife but there’s no way we’d be able to max this out. Better than having both Discover and Freedom be Restaurants though, I suppose (I wish it was the other way around, higher likelihood of us maxing out restaurants, and we have multiple Freedom cards)

  • Do the gas station purchases have to be at the pump?

  • Thank you for the update. Time to gear up some gift card at Walgreens.

  • I guess I will have to visit a different gas station rather than the one attached to my local Kroger.

  • I’m still spending down gas station gcs from the last 10x Chase Pay offer at BestBuy, so it looks like Walgreen is going to get the brunt of my spending until September.

Nothing for me, but thanks. If I did buy gas (more than when I’m visiting someone a couple of times a year, The Bank Of America Cash Rewards Card, if you have Platinum Honors, pays 5,25% back on gas, and the PenFed Platinum Rewards card gives you 5 points per dollar, which used to be worth 5% when redeemed, although a $50 gift or prepaid VISA card now costs about 5800 points.

  • William Blankenship says:

Love the gas station quarter, easy to meet spend with gift card purchase at stations

  • I’m a little confused by the stated exclusion of warehouse stores–checked my statement, I am getting the 5% using the card at Costco gas stations.
