Back on June 17, Citi launched a transfer bonus to Cathay Asia Miles — a repeat of one we saw last year at exactly this time of year. If you still want to take advantage of this offer, here's your last chance reminder. This 15% transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou® points to Cathay Asia Miles ends on July 20, 2024.

This transfer bonus makes the best ways to use Asia Miles even better. For example, you can fly business class to Africa or Asia from 55k Citi points or fly Cathay Pacific business class as far as you possibly can for 96k Citi points.

Best Ways to Redeem Cathay Asia Miles

AwardWallet has an entire article dedicated to the best ways to use Asia Miles, but let's review some of the top options.

Fly to Africa from 55k Citi points

You can take advantage of Asia Miles' 5,000-mile distance band to fly to Africa. As long as you keep the total distance under 5,000 miles, you'll pay 27,000 Asia Miles in economy or 63,000 Asia Miles in business class. The pricing is the same whether you fly Royal Air Maroc through Casablanca or another Oneworld airline like British Airways or Iberia — as long as the mileage is under 5,000 miles total.

During this transfer bonus, you'll only need to transfer 24k Citi points to book an economy award or 55k Citi points for business class. Those are excellent rates, especially to fly to a region that's typically priced much higher in region-based award programs.

Fly from the U.S. West Coast to Asia from 55k Citi points

Cathay Pacific only charges 63,000 Asia Miles for partner business class flights up to 5,000 miles in distance. That's just enough distance to cover Japan Airlines' flight from Seattle (SEA) to Tokyo Narita (NRT).

Factoring in the 15% transfer bonus and the requirement to transfer points in increments of 1,000 points, you'll need to transfer 55k Citi ThankYou points to get enough Asia Miles to book this one-way fight.

Flights over 5,000 miles are significantly more expensive at 89,000 miles each way. Factoring in the transfer bonus, you'd need to transfer 78k Citi points to book this slightly-longer-than-5,000-mile award from San Diego (SAN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT):

Fly as far as you can in Cathay Pacific business class for 96k Citi points

Asia Miles' award chart for Cathay Pacific is unique in that the “ultra-long” distance band starts at just 7,501 miles. Any trips over that distance cost 110,000 Cathay miles — whether it's booking a nonstop from New York to Hong Kong or continuing onward all the way to South Africa!

During this Citi transfer bonus, you'll only need to transfer 96,000 ThankYou points to get enough Asia Miles to fly as far as you want in Cathay Pacific business class.

Citi ThankYou to Asia Miles Transfer Bonus History

Asia Miles will periodically offer transfer bonuses to entice members to transfer points into the program. However, we have only seen two transfer bonuses offered by Citi ThankYou points for transfers to Asia Miles:

That means this is the second transfer bonus of its kind in almost five years. And this shows that a 15% transfer bonus seems to be the best transfer bonus on offer.
