You can now earn 3X Avios per dollar spent when you book Airbnb stays through British Airways. Rather than a limited-time promotion, this seems to be a new partnership between BA and Airbnb. In addition to earning 3X Avios per dollar, new Airbnb customers will pick up a 500-Avios bonus when making their first booking, and new Airbnb hosts will earn an extra 8,000 Avios.

Key Terms

  • Earn 3X Avios per dollar spent on Airbnb bookings.
  • The earning value is calculated in USD regardless of the currency of the transaction.
  • New Airbnb customers will receive a 500-Avios bonus on their first booking.
  • First-time Airbnb hosts can receive an 8,000-Avios bonus via the portal.

Making a Booking

Making a booking that is eligible to earn Avios is easy:

  • Make sure cookies are enabled on your browser.
  • Head over to the Airbnb affiliate page and enter your BA Executive Club number.
  • You will then be taken to the Airbnb site where you can search for accommodation and make your booking.

Our Take

This relationship is a great bonus if you are a regular Airbnb user and want to boost your Avios balance. What is even better about this partnership is that it does not exclude you from earning a credit-card spending-category bonus when you pay for your booking. So, if you use the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card to make a booking, you will still earn 3X Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent (on travel) in addition to the 3X Avios for booking through the British Airways shopping portal. If you are into Avios, this deal is a win-win!

So now I have to decide whether to earn Avios or Delta points with AirBnb bookings. Nice to have choices!

  • This post made me realise that I have not been earning any miles for my AirBnB bookings!!!

I must try harder next time.

  • The_Bouncer says:

I am not a great fan of Airbnb, but it can fill a gap in places like Cuba, for example. Nice to be able to pick up some miles.

    • Ditto. Airbnb has limited usefulness to me too, but sure does come in hand in some locations, like you mention.

  • I’m seeing more and more promos for Avios. I wonder if they are trying to boost their numbers?
I hear lots of people talking about how good they are for partner redemptions and intra Europe flights.
At this time I do not have a use to build them up.

If you do not have an Avios account and then get one, only to transfer from UR do they have any issues?

  • Nice to have some other possibility to earn miles when using Airbnb.
Anyway, the earning rate is not extremely good.

Not the best I have seen

  • Surprisingly, I’m going to take the Delta option over Avios. Not that Delta is worth more, but it’s more convenient in some cases.

  • A nice way to rack up extra British Airways avios. These points are useful for short haul American airlines flights if you can find saver award availability.

An airbnb and British Airways team up is a good idea. I hope even more airlines jump on this kind of partnership.

  • Thanks! I’m going to Europe in autumn and planned to made my reservations this weekend. I’ simply love Avios for their Household accounts and I’m sure going to book Airbnb for Avios

  • Michaelj1 says:

3 plus 3 is more than six!

  • All the horror stories I heard about AirBnB stays are still preventing me from booking with AirBnB despite this nice bonus.

  • It’s nice to hear that the number of partners has risen: Delta, Quantas, S7 and now BA. I wonder what airlines will be next?

  • nice promotion! BA miles are great for avios redemption on partners

  • Nice!!! Love this promotion. should be fruitful!!!

  • Delta also. I believe you have to choose

  • Home away has lower fees…

  • Cool. Hope they don’t take this away.

  • BA rocks, and so does AwardWallet!

  • Airbnb partnering with Avios is a great way to get and extend BA miles. Thanks for the info!

  • I’d probably go with the Delta selection also. But I truly appreciate any of the paired offers where you get an additional benefit from an action you would be doing anyway.

  • Sounds good!

  • Another way to leverage AirBNB sounds good to me.

  • Still not worth it to deal with the scams so many people run into on AirBnb.

  • Sameer Agarwal says:

Is there any price difference if booked directly vs booking through BA site.. ? some sites tend to do that.. then it would be a question of whether it’s worth booking through BA for the additional miles..

also, as Jay says- i haven’t been earning miles for my AirBnB booking.. need to work harder !!!!

    • That’s a great question. I haven’t seen any examples of increased prices, but I also haven’t been doing a lot of Airbnb searching since this was announced. Please let us know if anyone comes across inflated prices using the BA portal.

  • So happy to stumble across this. As previous posters have written, it is a great way to extend the life of Avios points. I was also unaware the same was true with Delta. Excellent! AwardWallet is proving to be so useful and informative.

  • Nice perk if you can stomach AirBNB

  • The few extra avios will come in handy for Qantas business shortfalls in Australia.

  • Thanks for the post! Nice to know! FYI – I have found several situations where the price is significantly different on Airbnb and VRBO for the exact same property. I can’t remember which extension on my Chrome browser notifies me, but I think it’s Wikibuy or something like that (otherwise it’s probably somewhat labor-intensive to try to find it). Thanks again!
