American Express has teamed up for a promotion with Starwood Preferred Guest called 5,000 more reasons to stay. The promo is offering 5,000 bonus SPG points if you stay 15 nights between October 18, and December 18, 2016, and pay with any American Express credit or charge card.

SPG 5,000 reasons to stay promo

Promotion Details

  • Register for the offer
  • Book and stay 15 or more eligible nights from October 18 through December 18, 2016
  • Pay with any American Express Credit or Charge Card
  • Earn a one-time bonus of 5,000 Starpoints®
  • Bookings made prior to the promotion period are eligible for this offer if stay falls between the promo dates
  • Bonus Starpoints will post to the registered member's account within 2–4 weeks after the last qualifying stay

There is a discrepancy in the language used on the main web page and the T&C’s page, with the main promo stating you need to stay 15 nights, and the T&C’s stating 15 stays.

“…eligible to receive a one-time 5,000 Starpoint bonus for fifteen (15) or more consumed, eligible stays between October 18 and December 18, 2016…”

And a little further down the page.

“…An Eligible Stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying an Eligible Rate at a participating SPG property regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur and post to the member's Starwood Preferred Guest® account. Eligible Stays with at least fifteen nights in the promotion period will receive a bonus…”

Final Thoughts

We're confident the promo rules require 15 nights and not stays; we can’t see too many SPG members hitting this promotion unless you already have a bunch of stays planned one after the other in different locations. Fifteen nights would be borderline for casual SPG members but fifteen stays in sixty days is in excess to what a true road-warrior would consider.

That being said, it takes less than a minute to register which we recommend for all promotions if you participate actively in the rewards program.
