Recently, two offers for The Business Platinum Card® from American Express have been announced with enhanced points earning on airfare and large purchases.
Earn 5X Points on Airfare Purchases
This offer lets you earn 5X Membership Rewards for every dollar spent on airfare. The offer is valid for purchases made through March 29, 2017; there doesn't appear to be a restriction on when the flights occur. As with many American Express promotions, you need to register your card to take advantage of the targeted offer. The offer is valid for purchases that are charged directly with the airline or through American Express travel. Full details of the 5x earnings promo are available through American Express. This offer is targeted and you may not be eligible for the additional points.
Earn 2 Points / Dollar on Transactions Over $5,000
The standard earning on the Business Platinum Card is 1 point per dollar. For transactions of $5,000 or more, you earn 1.5 points per dollar on up to $1,000,000 in transactions. However, for a limited time, you might be eligible to earn an additional 1/2 point per dollar when you make a qualifying purchase of $5,000 or more. The net effect is that you'll earn 2 points per dollar for each qualifying purchase of $5,000 or more up to that $1,000,000 limit. If you hit the million-dollar threshold, normally you'd drop down to 1 point per dollar, but with this promotion, you'll continue to earn an additional 1/2 point through April 15, 2017. Conclusion
If you've been using a different card for airfare or large purchases, now is the time to consider switching to the Business Platinum Card if you've been targeted for these promos.

This is a good offer for anyone who is targeted, but unfortunately there isn’t any way that I’m aware of to ensure you get targeted. Sometimes I think with some cards I feel I get promotions if I haven’t used the card in a while, but that might be just coincidence. It may be that if I had been using it I might have got even better promotions!

Is there any way to get on Amex radar for such offers? How do they determine whom to invite?
I’d say the best way is to regularly use your card. There is no evidence to indicate this is the way to do it, but if I were Amex, I’d target people that use the card as an incentive to further use the card.
If you have to buy a flight over $5000, you’d have quite a return.
Think about it … 7x points! 🙂
