Our Take

If you are a Marriott member and have been targeted for this promotion, then signing up is worth a minute of your time. Whether you are planning on 2 stays or 20 stays during the promotion period, earning a bonus 2,000 points per stay is a nice perk. While 2,000 points is a modest bonus, these bonus points can help you build up your Marriott Bonvoy balance toward a future award stay — especially if you have multiple stays planned.

It is worth remembering that you can transfer Marriott points to a wide range of airlines at a ratio of 3 points to 1 airline mile. Marriott provides an automatic bonus of 5,000 miles when you transfer at least 60,000 Marriott points. So the points that you earn through this promotion could prove lucrative if you need extra airline miles.

  • weak promotion as Marriott really lately has no good incentives

  • Excellent Marriott promotion. As is common, this giant of international hotels frequently makes excellent loyalty programs towards the user.

  • joshua schenk says:

Thanks for this post. I will be using Marriott for 2 different stays in May and I will register for the 2K promotion for a second night.

  • What is the motivation behind targeting certain members in this case?

    • Think about targeting this way. Promotions have a cost to Marriott, in this case additional points. They only pay that cost to increase business, hoping they ran the math right and they’ll come out ahead in the end. However, there are groups of their guests that don’t need to be incentivized to stay with Marriott. If they’re going to stay anyways, why give them an offer? Or, perhaps another group is too small a fish? Why pay for them if it might just produce a single stay for a customer that has never stayed much over the years?

  • Might have to consider moving some of my business back to Marriott. Still prefer Hilton!

  • I wonder whether this promotion will do anything to the (temporary) collapse in the hotel occupancy rate.

  • For infrequent travelers, the key point that should be top of the list:

Earn 2,000 bonus points per stay starting from your ***second*** stay.

  • I think they really need more sweeteners besides the promises stated in the special email message.

  • They should propose 2000 points immediately from the first stay considering COVID-19.
