Qatar Airways introduced its Privilege Club Collection, letting you redeem your Avios for experiences and events. The events fall into two main categories: music and culture on one hand and sports and leisure on the other. So far, there are 28 events on the 2024 calendar. These cover a wide range of events, from soccer matches in Italy to concerts in New Zealand and Formula 1 races across the globe.
How The Privilege Club Collection Works
The new Privilege Club Collection operates on a simple auction system, available here. Once an auction starts, all you need to do is bid. To submit your bid, you will need to set up an OTP (One-Time Password), which you should already have done in your Qatar Privilege Club account.
Once you bid, the entire Avios amount will be deducted from your account and held in escrow. However, if you are outbid, it will be refunded, and you will be notified.
You can also set up automatic bidding, where you enter the maximum amount you are willing to bid, and the system will bid in increments on your behalf up to your maximum limit.
Popcorn bidding is enabled to avoid people waiting for the last second before attempting to swoop in with a winning bid. So, if a bid is submitted in the last 60 seconds of the auction, the time limit is automatically extended by 60 seconds to allow more bids to be made. Members will be notified of the status of their bids by email.

For 2024, there are 28 events in the Qatar Airways Privilege Club collection.

So far, Qatar has announced 15 sports and entertainment upcoming events from March through the end of November 2024:

Boosting Your Qatar Avios Balance
If you want to bid but your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account is a little light, you have some options. The first thing to consider is transferring some Avios from another partner to Qatar. This way, even if your bid is unsuccessful, you can return your Avios to the initial account after the auction. You can transfer Avios from all of the following to Qatar Airways:
- British Airways Executive Club
- Iberia Plus
- Aer Lingus AerClub

Since you can move Avios around freely, you can transfer virtually every flexible point currency to Qatar Airways — either directly or by transferring to an Avios partner first, then moving rewards to Qatar Airways.
Aside from internal Avios transfers, you can transfer several flexible points currencies, including Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou® Points, to Qatar Privilege Club.
Our Take
Hardly a day goes by, it seems, without another airline or hotel loyalty program getting in on the “redeeming for experiences” act. On one level, this is good for customers since it gives them more choices for using their rewards. On the other hand, it can be bad news since customers can get caught up in a bidding war and pay too much for an experience. Also, the introduction of experiences may help disincentive airlines from releasing more and more award space — the thing that most people want to redeem miles for and the option that tends to provide the best value.
On the other hand, if you want to use your points and miles — or Avios, in this case — then redeeming them for unique events is a great way to use up your balance and have a new experience. And now, you have options for redeeming your Qatar Avios for multiple events and experiences.
