These promotions have ended.

Starwood Preferred Guest and Marriott Rewards have both announced their summer promos. Not surprisingly for two programs who are going to merge into one in the near future, the promos are identical including for the number of points earned—which takes into account the transfer ratio (1:3) between both programs.

Our Take

With status matching and points transfers, SPG and Marriott are moving their loyalty programs closer and closer. Recently, both companies have started producing identical or almost identical promos as the programs carry on towards amalgamation

While both of these promos aren't particularly exciting they are still worth the few seconds it takes to register. Even if you have no stays planned, you never know when you might suddenly have a stay pop up.

If you have a significant amount of travel planned throughout the promotion period and think you might hit the bonus earning cap, and you're flexible with where you stay, you might consider splitting your stays between both to maximize your earning, since you can always combine your SPG & Marriott points.
