This week, United launched a new promotion to incentivize MileagePlus members to travel to Europe this fall by offering 5X bonus miles on bookings. Depending on your United MileagePlus elite status tier, you can earn up to 16X total miles when flying to or through London, Amsterdam, or Paris by December 13, 2023. Here are the details of this promotion
Up to 16X United Miles Promotion
United has a new promotion giving MileagePlus members 5X bonus miles on economy bookings to select cities in Europe through December 13, 2023. Members must first register for this promotion, and then book and complete their flights all by December 13. Upon completion, members will receive 5X bonus miles on top of the base miles earned on the flight.
How many base miles members earn depends on their elite status tier. General members earn 5X base miles, so 10X total miles with this promotion. At the top of the scale, Premier 1K members get 11X base miles, earning 16X total miles with this promotion. Members can earn a maximum of 50,000 bonus miles with this promotion, which would require $10,000 of spending. Remember that members can only earn a maximum of 75,000 miles on United flights in general, excluding any bonus miles.
Eligible flights are those booked in economy class, but not basic economy. Flights must travel between the U.S. and London, Amsterdam, or Paris. Flights can be in either direction but must have London, Amsterdam, or Paris as one stop of the trip, whether the departure, arrival, or layover airport. Segments before or after the flight from the U.S. to these select European cities will also earn 5X bonus miles. Flights must be operated by United, and codeshares with a partner airline are ineligible.

Terms and conditions
- First, register for this promotion.
- Then, book and complete your flights before December 13, 2023.
- You will only receive the bonus miles on the fare and carrier-imposed surcharges and not any government-imposed taxes and surcharges.
- Only economy class fares (excluding basic economy) of eligible flights operated by United qualify.
- Award travel tickets or tickets booked with partner airlines don't qualify.
- Miles earned through this promotion do not count toward Premier status or Million Miler status and do not apply to class-of-service bonus miles, Premier bonus miles, or promotional Premier qualifying miles.
- Bonus miles will post to member's accounts within 6–8 weeks of completing eligible flights.
Final Thoughts
Autumn is a great time to travel to Europe, and this promotion certainly provides a nice incentive to do so. General MileagePlus members get double miles with this promotion, and Premier 1K members get 16X total miles on the flights.
Remember that flights don't have to terminate in London, Amsterdam, or Paris to count for this promotion. As long as you travel to, through, or from these cities before December 13 and after registering, you will earn 5X bonus miles.
