This Hilton Points Purchase promotion has ended, however, you can still purchase Hilton points.
Hilton Honors is running a 100% bonus on purchased points if you buy on or before October 21, 2016.
Hilton is on a promotional hot-streak after the Marriott-Starwood merger. Last week we shared the limited-time increased welcome bonuses on three of the Hilton co-branded credit cards, quickly followed by a stackable 3x total bonus points when combining the current Double Up promotion with booking via the Hilton Honors mobile app. And now there is a 100% bonus on buying Hilton Honors points.
Hilton Honors points can typically be purchased for 1¢ per point, so purchasing points with a 100% bonus drops the cost-per-point down to 0.5¢ or half price. You can buy a total of 80K Honors points (pre-bonus) per year, so if you purchase the maximum amount of points on offer you’ll have 160K Hilton points at your disposal.
The details for Hilton Honors latest promotion:
- Offer valid for purchases made between October 6 and October 21, 2016
- Buy between 10,000 – 19,000 Points and receive 80% more bonus Points
- Buy 20,000+ Points and receive a 100% more bonus Points
- You can buy up to 80,000 Points per year
- Points are purchased through Points.com and don’t qualify as travel spend for credit card bonus categories
- Points will be posted to the recipients Hilton Honors account within 24 hours
- Purchases are final and non-refundable
Should You Buy Hilton Honors Points with a 100% Bonus?
While Hilton ran a 50% discount on Honors points just 6 weeks ago, the promotion was targeted, with a mix of 30%, 40%, and 50% discounts across different accounts. As the promotion was a discount as opposed to a bonus, purchases were restricted to a maximum of 80K points.
This latest promotion is offering a 100% bonus which allows you to max out the promotion at 160K Honors points, for a total of $800 if you buy the full 80K points available. Additionally, having such a low threshold to receive the maximum bonus (20K+ points) makes topping up your account to reach a specific redemption an easy and cost effective solution to gaining a substantial balance of Hilton points.
The value of having cash in hand and the risk of a program devaluation, although minor in Hilton’s case, warrants only purchasing points to top off an account with points you intend to redeem straight away or buying bulk points to be used on a redemption where the value of the points outweighs the cash price.
Hilton Honors points purchases are processed by Points.com and won't count as travel spend for credit card bonus categories, so you’re better to use a card optimized for everyday spend.
If you have a particular Hilton redemption in mind, buying Hilton points with a 100% bonus could represent great value to top off your account.
