For years, American Express' Amex Offers was the big name when it comes to online shopping rebates. Slowly, other banks have been hopping on the bandwagon with their own programs. In fact, you can pretty much find offers from all of the big banks these days. Capital One just so happens to be one of those banks.

Recently, Capital One expanded its Capital One Offers option for cardholders. And while the selections were initially slim, Capital One is upping its game and expanding and adding more retailers to its lineup.

Key Points

  • Capital One Offers allow you to earn cash back on eligible purchases.
  • No enrollment is required.
  • You must be logged into your Capital One account and use the provided link to receive credit for purchases.
  • Make sure to disable popup blockers so the website can track your purchase.
  • Offers seem to be for online stores only, but things could always change in the future.
  • Cash back is limited to a total of $1,000 per qualifying card account every three billing cycles.
  • Rebates can take up to 3 full billing cycles to post to your account.

Types of Offers in Capital One Offers

Capital One Offers is similar to other bank cash back shopping programs in that you can earn cash back when shopping. However, that's where the similarities end. Unlike Citi Merchant Offers, Chase Offers, and Amex Offers, Capital One Offers is essentially a shopping portal.

This means that when you navigate to a store's website via the Capital One Offers page and make a purchase, you earn cash back, thanks to a reciprocal agreement the store has with the referring company. In this case, that's Capital One.

All you need to do to utilize Capital One Offers is log in to your Capital One account. On your dashboard, offers are listed front and center. Capital One will only show you a handful of retailers on your dashboard. To see more, simply select the “View All Offers” option. Alternatively, you can go directly to the offers page here if you're already logged in.

You can also look for individual retailers by utilizing the “search” feature located at the top of the page. Just type in the retailer you would like to shop at. If it's available, Capital One will pull it up — as you can see from the example below.

If the merchant is unavailable, Capital One will not show any results.

Once you select your retailer (we are using Lululemon for this example), you will be taken to a new page that shows the terms and conditions of the offer. Select “Continue to Merchant” once you have confirmed your eligibility.

Now, you are ready to go. Just make sure that you complete the entire transaction through this link. If you open a new page and make your purchase through that, you will not be eligible for cash back. That's because the alternate page does not include a tracking link.

Stackability of Capital One Offers… or Lack Thereof

Unlike Amex Offers, you can't stack Capital One Offers with other shopping portal bonuses. But this isn't necessarily a dealbreaker. The Capital One offer could potentially be much more lucrative than any other stacking options out there. It's up to you to do the math.

You'll also need to read through the terms and conditions to ensure that coupons will not void your cash back.

Finally, always make sure to check out CashbackMonitor and compare rates before committing to the Capital One Offers page. Shopping portals are constantly changing their rates, so make sure you are getting the best return.

Capital One Shopping vs. Capital One Offers

This is where things can get a little confusing. In addition to Capital One Offers, Capital One offers Capital One Shopping — which is another shopping incentive program.

It too comes with a shopping portal feature to earn cash back at a variety of retailers. Additionally, you can download the free browser extension, which will automatically apply coupons to your eligible purchases. Finally, you can attach your email to your Capital One Shopping account to access the Price Protection feature. If Capital One detects a lower price on your purchase, it will help you receive a refund for the difference in price.

With Capital One Shopping, anyone can utilize its features. It is public. Capital One Offers are only available to those who have Capital One credit cards.

Final Thoughts

If you have a Capital One card and need to make an online purchase, make sure to check out the Capital One Offers beforehand. More and more retailers are being added all the time. So, it's worth checking to make sure you aren't leaving money on the table.
