Boost Your Earnings With 2X Miles on Everyday Purchases

A majority of rewards cards earn 1 point (or sometimes less) on non-bonus purchases. However, the Capital One Venture earns a solid 2X miles on every purchase, every day.

Following the latest updates to Capital One's transfer program, if you decide to transfer your Capital One miles to airline and hotel partners, the earning rate gets you up to 2X airline miles or hotel points per dollar. That's without needing to think about bonus categories, spending caps, or which card to use at checkout.

This makes for an easy-to-understand rewards strategy that earns more than one airline mile per dollar spent across all your monthly expenses.

Redeem Venture Miles for Free Flights, Accommodation, and Travel Purchases

The miles earned on your Capital One Venture now rank amongst the most flexible rewards available. Cardholders can redeem miles at a value of 1¢ per mile towards almost any travel expense charged to the card using the Purchase Eraser feature, or transfer miles to 19 different airline and hotel partners, providing ultimate flexibility and a legitimate alternative to the big four flexible rewards programs.

How to Redeem Venture Miles For Almost Any Travel Purchase

You can redeem miles earned on your Capital One Venture at a fixed rate of 1¢ per mile towards almost any travel expense within 90 days of purchase with a feature called Purchase Eraser.

The miles are credited towards your account as a statement credit, wiping out all or part of a travel purchase with each mile worth 1 cent. Redeeming 2,500 miles would credit $25 back to your account.

Where the Purchase Eraser truly comes into its own is when you find cheap airfare deals, error fares, mistake rates at hotels, or exclusive travel deals with OTAs. Simply charge the discounted travel purchase to your card, then, using your Capital One Venture login credentials, sign in to your account, navigate to the rewards page, and select the option to ‘Redeem Travel Purchase’. Valid travel purchases include hotels, Airbnb, airfare, train tickets, rental cars, tours, experiences, and much more.

Because you can redeem them for 1¢ per mile any day of the week, Venture Miles are essentially immune to devaluations so common to frequent flyer programs. They require no specialized knowledge to use, and there are no blackout dates.

For anyone that has tried to redeem miles to Hawaii during peak season, the ability to just buy a ticket then wipe out the charge using the Purchase Eraser is immensely valuable.

As an added bonus, both airline tickets and hotel rooms purchased from the provider are treated as revenue purchases, so you still receive elite credits and benefits. Plus, you’ll earn redeemable points/miles when you complete your stay or flight.

Transfer Capital One Venture Miles to 19 Airline and Hotel Partners

Introduced at the end of 2018, Capital One‘s airline transfer program has transformed Capital One Rewards from an uninspiring fixed-value program to a full-fledged flexible-rewards program.

Following the latest updates to Capital One's transfer program, there are now three different transfer ratios for airline and hotel partners.

1:1 (1,000:1,000) Transfer Partners

  • Avianca (LifeMiles)
  • Etihad (Etihad Guest)
  • Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles)
  • AeroMexico (Club Premier)
  • Finnair (Finnair Plus)
  • Qantas (Qantas Frequent Flyer)
  • Wyndham Hotels and Resorts (Wyndham Rewards)
  • TAP Air Portugal (Miles&Go)
  • Choice Hotels (Choice Privileges) — available “later this year”

2:1.5 (1,000:750) Transfer Partners

  • Air Canada (Aeroplan)
  • Air France/KLM (Flying Blue)
  • Alitalia (MilleMiglia)
  • British Airways (Executive Club)
  • EVA Air (Infinity MileageLands)
  • JetBlue (TrueBlue)
  • Turkish Airlines (Miles&Smiles)

2:1 (1,000:500) Transfer Partners

  • Emirates (Skywards)
  • Singapore (KrisFlyer)
  • Accor (Accor Live Limitless)

As the Capital One Venture earns 2X miles per dollar on all purchases, you now earn 2X miles or points in 7 of the 19 partner programs, on every purchase!

With United’s decision to abolish award charts, Capital One’s partners like Aeroplan, Turkish Miles and Smiles, and Avianca LifeMiles have fast become the most cost-effective way to book United and other Star Alliance flights.

Those looking to book flights with American Airlines will be well served by Capital One partners like Etihad, British Airways Avios, and Cathay Pacific.

Similarly, Delta flights can be booked with Air France/KLM or Alitalia (although you aren't likely to find a lot of award availability).

The lack of a quality U.S.-based transfer partner is definitely a drawback. But, with so many recent devaluations by U.S. frequent-flyer programs, you're likely to find better value booking rewards on U.S. legacy carriers via overseas programs.

See our comprehensive breakdown of Capital One’s airline and hotel partners for a detailed analysis of transfer rates and the pros and cons of transferring to each partner.

Does Capital One Have a Venture Miles Redemption Chart?

No. There is no redemption chart for Capital Venture Miles as they are not traditional airline miles. Instead, they are a fusion of flexible rewards points (such as Chase Ultimate Rewards and Amex Membership Rewards) and fixed-value rewards (like U.S. Bank Altitude points) which have a value of 1¢ per mile when redeemed for travel.

The two redemption options for redeeming Venture Miles for travel are:

  • Fixed-Value: Redeem miles at 1¢ per mile towards almost any travel expense
  • Flexible: Transfer miles to airline and hotel partners

Maximize Capital One Venture Card Benefits

To ensure you get the most value out of your Capital One Venture, it’s essential to utilize all the benefits the card offers, including the TSA PreCheck / Global Entry fee credit, travel insurances, and retail benefits.

Capital One Venture Global Entry TSA Pre credit

One of the easiest ways to help offset the card’s annual fee, the Capital One Venture offers up to $100 in fee credits towards Global Entry or TSA PreCheck enrolment. If you already have PreCheck or Global Entry, you can use this credit to gift membership to someone else.

Capital One Venture travel insurance and retail benefits include:

  • 24-Hour Travel Assistance Services
  • Travel Accident Insurance
  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
  • Roadside Assistance
  • Extended Warranty
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

Final Thoughts

Thanks to the recently updated Capital One transfer program, the limited-time 100,000-mile bonus is potentially worth 33% more than it was before the new 1:1 transfer tier was introduced. This is great news for new card members, adding an extra layer of value to an already stellar offer.

The Capital One Venture offers incredible flexibility, earning miles you can transfer to airline partners, or redeem for a fixed value against almost any travel purchase.  The ability to earn 2X miles on every purchase means you can build a substantial balance of Capital One Miles just utilizing your everyday expenses. And the option to transfer miles between any account with a Capital One Miles earning card makes Venture Miles an excellent choice for folks tackling the points-and-miles game with a partner or family members.

I’ve had lots of problems with Capital One and their credit cards so I’m avoiding them, especially after spending 3+ hours on hold to talk to someone about a card fraud issue.

Never got into capital one and have been a loyal chase user but with Chase moving there call centers to Southeast Asia and it being so much more difficult to contact them and get to the right person right away I’m thinking about moving my loyalty over

I think that more applicants are aiming for the $3000 spend bonuses. Very few people would like to put all $20000 worth of spending on one single card.

I’d love to get back into the good graces of Capital One. They seem very inquiry sensitive and overall prefer customers with less “prime” scores. I have an old Savor card that I could put some spend on and perhaps get them interested again.

Too bad it’s so difficult for some folks to get approved. Since I’m just about to free up a 5/24 slot, I’m not even going to bother trying. Good luck to others though.

Hello. How often I can I reapply for the Capital One Venture? I’ve had the card in the past. Thanks
