Capital One Venture X Welcome Offer

New Capital One Venture X cardmembers can take home an excellent welcome offer of 75,000 Venture Miles! While it's not as high as the previous 100,000-mile offer, the spending requirement is much more achievable at just $4,000 in the first 3 months.

As for the annual fee, it's downright cheap compared to other premium products on the market. At $395 a year, this card is almost half the $695 fee of The Platinum Card® from American Express (Rates & Fees) and $155 less than the $550 fee for the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

Earning Capital One Rewards Miles

Once upon a time, Capital One Rewards miles weren't very exciting. But, these days, it's a different story. Capital One miles now transfer to 17 partners, and miles transfer to almost all of these partners at a 1:1 rate.

Loyalty ProgramTransfer RatioMiles/Points per 1,000 Capital One Miles Transferred
Aeromexico (Club Premier)1:11,000

Or, rewards can still be used for a traditional “fixed-value redemption” option — where you essentially redeem your miles at a fixed value rate of 1¢ per mile as a statement credit for eligible travel expenses.

Just like several other Capital One branded cards, the Capital One Venture X earns Capital One Rewards miles (or Venture Miles, or whatever you want to refer to them as). Like the Capital One Venture, you'll earn miles at a rate of 2 miles for every dollar spent.

The Capital One Venture X also offers elevated miles earning in several travel-related categories:

  • 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked with Capital One Travel
  • 5x miles on flights booked with Capital One Travel

Other Card Benefits

Like all good premium rewards cards, this one comes with a fat stack of benefits. Here are the perks the Capital One Venture X card touts:

  • $300 annual credit for bookings including hotels, flights rental cars, and more made on Capital One Travel
  • 10,000 bonus miles each anniversary year
  • Hertz President's Circle elite status
  • Unlimited access to Capital One lounges
  • Complimentary Priority Pass lounge access
  • $100 TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit

Who Should Get the Capital One Venture X

Copy-of-Feature-Toni-4-300x240

There aren't many points and miles fans who would not benefit from this card. The fee is downright reasonable and the welcome offer is fantastic. In fact, the anniversary miles and the $300 travel credit more than outweigh the $395 annual fee.

Additionally, the card earns 2x miles on all purchases and up to 10x in bonus categories. Best of all, those miles can be transferred to lots of fantastic partners. Some of my favorite partners are Avianca LifeMiles, Air Canada Aeroplan, and Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles.

For example, I recently used my Capital One miles to travel to Italy. I transferred Capital One miles to Avianca and then used those LifeMiles to book my flight on Lufthansa.

Application Rules

Capital One's application rules are simple and relatively lenient. Nevertheless, some people find that they are unable to get a Capital One card even if they technically should be eligible.

The first thing to know is that you can get 1 new Capital One credit card every 6 months. This is for both consumer and business credit cards. Additionally, you can only hold 2 Capital One branded credit cards at a time.

The last thing you need to know here is that Capital One pulls your credit report from all 3 bureaus. Whether this is a big deal or not really depends on what you've got going on with your credit. For some people, that many credit pulls is a major deal-breaker. For others, it's a non-issue.

Final Thoughts

The current introductory offer on the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card can land new card members a stack of miles which are extremely valuable following all the program updates, and snagging 75,000 bonus miles with a $4,000 spend is a great deal. Add in all of the benefits and perks for just $395 a year and this card is a must-have.

  • Sounds really good, but I have two issues. Their travel credit of $300 is limited. The Chase card gives it to you for Ezpass as well, they don’t. Also Chase gives 1.5 per point for flights and it’s considered a cash payment as well which gives you more miles.
    Am I wrong?

    • Agreed that the CSR travel credit is much easier to use. And yes, using points through the Chase portal counts as cash bookings, so you’ll earn miles on flights booked through the Chase travel portal.

  • matthew Ward says:

I just applied and was auto accepted. I got the Venture X in April last year and got the 100,000 miles on that too. Make sure you check the option that says you regularly carry balances.

  • It will be interesting to see if I get it. I applied and then they asked me to send in a w-2, 2 paycheck stubs and 3 bank statements. Never had to send anything in for a CC app before.

I like the Venture card, We often go where there are not chain hotels and the Cap One points fill in those spots.

  • Capital One is catching up with Chase’s credit card offers now!

  • Unmesh Agarwala says:

Like many others here, I’m up for Amex Platinum renewal and seriously considering dropping it. This one is particularly interesting since I have 3 authorized users on Amex for an additional $175 annually.

I am concerned though about what is available on their Travel Portal. While I’m a fan of Amex FHR, I could never find a competitive air fare on their portal and the Capital One Portal seems to nominally be the best redemption value for their “miles”

Any posts about this would be very useful.

  • Applied and got denied for this card, despite having a 758 FICO (Experian), and no other Capital One cards. Granted, I just got the Air France KLM card two weeks ago, and 11 other cards since the start of the pandemic…this points game is addictive. Here’s the reasons given:

    ============
Thank you for applying for a credit card issued by Capital One®. Unfortunately, after reviewing your application and information obtained from your consumer credit report(s) from the agencies detailed on the back of this letter – we cannot approve your request at this time. The reason(s) for our decision are:

Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter, there are too many revolving accounts
Based on your credit report from one or more of the agencies on the back of this letter, there have been too many recent credit card inquiries
    ============
Well, that’s what happens when you pull from all THREE bureaus. Amex only did one pull for my four cards, so that’s less than 10 inquiries across the board. Two, I have applied for 17 cards, and got 12 of them easily, so it’s not a huge loss. I’m one of those folks Capital One is picky with, so this card is a hard pass. Not worth the squeeze. Chase, Amex, Citi, Bank of America, USAA, & Discover will continue to keep me as a cardholder. LOL

    • The fact they pull all 3 bureaus continues to be strange. Cap One is very sensitive to number of recent accounts and number of recent inquiries, unfortunately.

  • I am about to close on a refinance so I can’t apply just yet, but this is super enticing. Any idea how long this offer will be available?

    • Hi Adam, we don’t have any details on the end date, but limited-time offers usually last 30-60 days. This offer launched on November 9th, so you’re likely in good shape even if you need to wait a little bit.

  • I wonder how long the AF will remain at this level with these perks. I still would prefer getting the Amex Plat rather than this card. I can see the benefit to Capital One card but Amex still have more positive perks for me than CO.

  • 100,000 bonus miles? I´m wondering what´s next?

  • I already have the Venture card and am planning to downgrade my CSR to CSP because 550 is ridiculous since I’m barely traveling these days.

I’m wondering if maybe it’s better to ask CapOne if I can upgrade from Venture to Venture X…

    Any thoughts?

    • Matt – a few thoughts on this. 1-are you already at the “2 card limit” with Capital One? If so, upgrading could make sense, since you wouldn’t be eligible for a new card with them. 2-do you have a lot of recent inquiries/new cards? If so, Cap One approvals with lots of new activity on your credit report can be tough (though data coming in says Cap One is being more lenient with approvals than people had expected). I’m typically against upgrading to a card and forgoing the welcome offer points, unless there’s an overwhelming reason (typically “I won’t be able to get the card” is the only reason). If you are interested in the card and think you just don’t have a chance with Cap One to get it as a new card, then upgrading makes sense. Otherwise, to me it typically doesn’t make sense.

  • Decent benefits, good transfer partners but 10K spend to get the full bonus is still high. Great card if you have the spend though.

  • Applied and approved. My card churning addiction is bad….lol.

  • This really seems to be a generous offer. 100,000 miles is a great deal!

  • I’ll stick with the Chase UR and AMEX MR reward systems. If I were interested in this card, I’d be disappointed that the AirBNB or VRBO credit weren’t a general lodging or travel credit, instead.

  • angelo fonseca says:

wow. very good. and the program is on par with almost all the best programs in the world, including the emirates. sensational.

  • I’m a big fan of Capital One card products however appreciate I’m maybe in the minority there

  • If your traveling at all in the next 12 months, this card is a complete no-brainer. Fantastic welcome offer and a very reasonable annual fee considering the $300 travel credit and annual bonus when you keep the card….looking for a lot of AMEX Platinum card holders to make a switch as they must get tired of AMEX always raising the annual fee and giving out basically useless niche benefits in return. If you’re tired of the overcrowded Cenurion lounges, may be time to make a move to Capital One.

  • Nice combining their own lounges with priority pass. Chase should start creating their lounges around the world as well!

  • Lounge access is nice to have. 100,000 bonus points is great for a signup bonus. I need to review this further to see if I can justify to myself paying $395 annual fee.

  • Will this be a Mastercard or visa? I need a visa to pay at Costco. Lol.

  • Well, I applied through the link in this article, approved for 30K then went through Capital One’s “TSA check-in” (securely uploading my driving license), then added to AwardWallet, which gave the message that it detected my new Venture X card in my new Capital One online account (Capital One also emailed me that I had successfully linked to AwardWallet) but now have the message in Award Wallet that Capital One is saying “no reward accounts under this login”. So I will be keeping an eye on this account to see if that changes and that I actually start seeing rewards in my Capital One account (and in my AwardWallet account) once I receive the actual card and start using it..
Looking forward to trying out the Capital One lounge on my next flight connecting through DFW (have not flown since February 2020), as well as trying out CapitalOne’s technology for grabbing the best travel pricing.

      • After paying my first Venture X bill and also noting rewards points had been deposited in my Capital One account, I hit the “Update” button for the Capital One Venture X card in my AwardWallet, which brought up a message for me to log in to my Capital One within the window, and then AwardWallet correctly updated my Venture X points balance, and the error message went away.
And looks like I will be waiting longer before trying out the Capital One DFW lounge since Omicron has scared me (and my family) into cancelling our New York City Christmas trip, and instead taking a driving trip to Fredericksburg for a few days.

  • I was on the fence about canceling my Amex Platinum next month when the AF hits, but this card sealed its fate. Better practical benefits, far fewer gimmicks, and half the cost. The only things I don’t like are that high MS (2x what the Amex Platinum required last Nov), and the fact that getting this card cannibalizes much of my Chase trifecta, as the effective annual fee is $50 less than the CSP in year two and beyond.

Hopefully they still approve me, despite having a great credit score but a LOT of recent cards added to my wallet (I’m 11/24). LOL

  • Sean Robertson says:

If I currently have a Captial One Venture card, do you know whether it would be possible to apply for the Venture X, get the bonus, transfer my existing points balance to the new card, and then shut down the original Venture card? Thanks.

    • Sean – I think it’s “yes to everything”. Yes, you can apply as long as you meet the application rules (can’t have 2 personal cards with Capital One already, for example). Yes, you can earn the points and share them across your cards. Then you could close the old card or downgrade it to VentureOne (no fee).

  • Ive been interested in the Capital One model for quite awile. Now its looking even better.

  • They hit all three credit bureaus. And then, an 820 or so credit rating doesn’t get me approved. I don’t think I’ll waste three inquiries to get rejected by them again.

    • You might be surprised. I certainly was! I have dozens of open accounts and applied fully expecting to be rejected (like I was for the Capital One Venture 100k offer). But I was approved!

  • Instantly approved for 10k limit!

  • Capital One is catching up with Chase and Citi offers now

  • I was approved today and can’t wait for my card to arrive!

  • If you can make good use of their transfer partners, this could be a really lucrative card. I however don’t see myself using these partners.

  • I’d love to make this my first Cap1 card, but therein lies the rub. I don’t yet have a Cap1 card because they haven’t approved me for one. I suspect the same would happen with this card. Oh well…

  • This looks like a great card but unfortunately I am one of those people who can’t get a card from Capital One despite excellent credit and cards from almost every other issuer. So I’ll just have to give this one a pass. Kudos to those who can get it.

    • There are a lot of data points from those that were unexpectedly approved – such as me! I went into the application fully expecting to be rejected due to having dozens of other credit cards. But, Capital One approved me – with a huge $30k limit.

  • First time know that Capital One offers a credit card including lounge access. Thanks for the info!

  • I’m a frequent traveler; I live in a Delta hub city and stay at Hyatt and Marriott brands. I can’t see this card being of any use whatsoever for anything not already covered in spades with CSR and Amex Delta reserve or even a standard Amex Platinum.
Truthfully I can’t see this card being much use for any run-of-the-mill domestic traveler.
I suppose I could make the $300 travel benefit work, but the miles and lounges aren’t inspiring.

  • I was surprisingly approved. I only have a savings account with Capital One, no other CCs.

  • Great card! $10000 initial spend threshold is kind of high though.

  • Very limited US major hotels or airlines.

    • Yes, is there any way we can take a look at the travel portal before we apply? If as you say it’s a very limited selection of US hotels and airlines, I would pass, as most of my travel is outside the U.S.

  • Is there a dollar amount we can translate these miles to? I do the same analysis on the other cards out there (Ultimate Rewards for example) to see which on I should get next.

    • Hi there, the most conservative value for these points is one cent each, so that makes the bonus worth $1,000. You can get one cent per point by redeeming through Cap1 travel or by making a purchase with your card and then redeeming points for a statement credit with the fixed-value redemption feature. (more here). That said, if you transfer points to partner airlines, you can get significantly more than one cent each.

  • Any idea how long this offer will be around? Not only the 100K but also the VRBO credit.

  • What do you mean by Capital One branded card? I have 4. One platinum (first card ever) Two quicksilver cards, and a Venture 1. So I need to cancel 3 of them to get the Venture X?

    • Carl – yes. Capital One now has rules that you cannot have more than 2 personal cards with them that are “Capital One” cards (ex: that doesn’t apply to co-brand cards like Bass Pro Shop). To apply for the Venture X, you’d need to have 0 or 1 Capital One cards to be eligible.

  • This can definitely be a replacement for my Chase Sapphire Reserve. But I just renewed my CSR so if I get this Venture X now, I’ll be dishing out a lot up front here. Is it worth it?

    • The Venture X is definitely worth the fee. Especially in the first year, but even afterwards you get a $300 travel credit and $100 (min value) from the 10,000 Venture miles awarded annually. Also, depending on when you paid your CSR annual fee, you might still be eligible to get a whole or partial refund of the annual fee if you decide to close the account or downgrade. I’d recommend giving Chase a call to find out.

  • 100,000-mile bonus is really strong offer. I love it.
