This Alaska Miles Purchase promotion has ended, however, you can still purchase Alaska miles.

Alaska Airlines has been running a sale on MileagePlan miles for the past couple of weeks. The promotion gives a 20-40% bonus on purchasing Alaska miles. However, you have to purchase a minimum of 30,000 miles to get the full 40% bonus (lower amounts earn a smaller bonus).

Do note that there are some restrictions around this bonus too. You can only buy 60,000 Alaska MileagePlan miles per transaction and 150,000 per calendar year (per account). Additionally, the promotion ends on 2/22 (at 11:59 pm PST), so you have just one more day to purchase miles with the bonus.

Thankfully though, miles are pretty reasonably priced under this promotion. For example, if you buy 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles for $1,773.75, you'll get a bonus of 24,000 miles. This means you're spending roughly 2.1 cents per mile at the top end of the promotion.

Key Terms

  • Buy 5,000 — 19,000 miles = 20% bonus
  • Buy 20,000 — 29,000 miles = 30% bonus
  • Buy 30,000 — 60,000 miles = 40% bonus
  • Maximum of 60,000 per transaction
  • Maximum of 150,000 per user per calendar year

Our Take

Alaska MileagePlan miles are some of the most valuable in the industry. The airline has a ton of interesting partners like Emirates, JAL, Cathay Pacific, and even American Airlines. With that in mind, buying Alaska Airlines MileagePlan miles at 2.1 cents per point can help you get super discounted business-class seats on these airlines—so if you're planning a trip abroad—it might be worth buying miles over a paid ticket.
