Who is eligible to become a member of Navy Federal Credit Union?

These are the eligibility requirements for becoming a member of Navy Federal Credit Union:

  • Active duty members, including members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Space Force.
  • Veterans of any branch with any length of service.
  • Immediate family members of military personnel, including spouses, siblings, parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren.
  • Department of Defense (DoD) employees

All members must provide a Social Security number, driver's license or government ID, and current home address. A credit card or bank account and routing number to fund the account, and a minimum balance of $5 is required.

Get a $200 bonus with a Special EasyStart Certificate

In celebration of Veterans Month, prospective Navy Federal members will get a $200 bonus after joining the credit union and opening a Special EasyStart Certificate by November 30, 2025.

Special EasyStart Certificates offer a 4.15% APY, more than double the national average. You can choose between a 10-month Share, IRA, or ESA. The minimum deposit for an EasyStart Certificate is $50.

Other certificates are available for longer terms, but they do not come with the $200 bonus.

$200 bonus when you refinance your auto loan

Navy Federal members who refinance their auto loan from another lender to Navy Federal will earn a $200 bonus if the existing loan is $5,000 or more. Auto refi rates are as low as 3.89% APR for a new car auto loan, or 4.79% APR for a used car auto loan.

Up to $250 cash back with a Navy Federal Visa cashRewards Card

Navy Federal offers a handful of credit cards, but only a couple offer up to 2% unlimited cash back on all purchases. And if you apply for a Navy Federal Visa cashRewards Card now, You could earn $250 cash back when you spend $2,500 within 90 days of account opening.

If you’re approved for a credit limit of $5,000 or more, you’ll receive a cashRewards Plus card. If it’s less, you’ll get the cashRewards card. Outside of the credit limit, the main difference between these cards are their earning rates.

  • Unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases with cashRewards Plus
  • Unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases with cashRewards
