Doctor of Credit has confirmed with Citi that they are devaluing their price protection, by reducing the benefits of their Citi Price Rewind. The new rules will come into effect July 29, 2018. The move topples Citi from near top of the price protection benefit and comes as a further disappointment after Chase dropped its price protection recently.

Free Night Certificate Reprieve For IHG Credit Card Holders

Holders of the now unavailable IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card will be happy to hear that IHG and Chase, have rolled back on the devaluation of the annual Free Night certificate that comes with card membership. The news was confirmed by IHG Service via twitter, and you will be able to use your certificate at any IHG hotel through May 1, 2019.

It appears as though Chase will be cutting some benefits from the Chase Sapphire Reserve®. The move comes relatively quickly after Chase abolished Price and Returns protection across most of its cards. According to a document obtained by Doctor of Credit, the changes will affect some of the 3X earning on travel, as well as the guest access policy for the complimentary Priority Pass membership.

Chase Eliminating Price and Return Protection on Credit Cards

When we reviewed the best credit cards for Price Protection, Chase cards came out on top. Sadly this will no longer be the case. Chase has quietly eliminated Price Protection and Return Protection from nearly all of its cards. When you visit the landing page of most Chase cards and click on Service & protection or Travel & purchase coverage, you will no longer see either benefit listed as a card feature.

IHG Publishes List of Hotels Excluded from the Free Night Certificate

Following the disappointing recent news that IHG was devaluing the free night certificate earned with the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, IHG has formalized the devaluation, a published a list of hotels that you cannot use your free night certificate at. The list consists of IHG hotels which have a base redemption rate over 40,000 points per night.

Additional Delta MQM Bonuses for Amex Card Holders in 2018

Amex has announced a new MQM bonus tier for holders of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card and the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express. The bonus effectively adds a new spending tier and means you can earn an additional 10,000 and 15,000 MQMs respectively in the 2018 calendar year. It appears the bonus is for 2018 and not clear whether it will be carried into 2019 and beyond.

IHG Reduces Value of Free Night Certificate

IHG has reduced the value of its annual free night certificate earned by being an IHG® Rewards Select Credit Card cardmember. Certificates issued as of May 1, 2018, can only be redeemed at properties that have standard award nights priced at 40,000 points or less. Category 8 or higher properties will no longer be eligible for redemption with the free night certificate.
