Halloween is nearly upon us, and all the spooky feels are in the air. For those of you who want to embrace the season of the supernatural, what’s better than spending your All Hallows' Eve at a haunted hotel? Doing it with points, of course!

Here's a list of nine fantastically freaky haunted hotels you can book with rewards.

The Driskill [World of Hyatt]

The Driskill was designed by cattle baron Col. Jesse Driskill and constructed in 1886. To this day, it remains one of the most iconic properties in Austin, Texas. However, this World of Hyatt hotel isn't only elegant and prestigious; rumors of ghostly apparitions and unexplained paranormal activity have surrounded it since the beginning.

Tragic stories about accidents on the property have spread over the years. Some say the property was built with blood money from the Civil War, and its many sad stories reflect a kind of karmic revenge. These include the tale of a young child who, while chasing her ball, fell down the hotel’s grand staircase to her death. There have been reports of ghostly giggling and mysterious ping-pong ball sounds.

Another rumor tells of two distraught brides who, on the exact same day but 20 years apart and in the exact same room, took their lives after being left at the altar on their wedding day. The spirits of both are said to still haunt the hotel. For an especially bone-chilling experience, request Room 525.

For a bonus spooky experience, check out the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, where up to 1.5 million bats emerge nightly above Lady Bird Lake.

The Hotel Saranac [Hilton Honors]

Saranac Lake in New York has a long history of ghostly encounters, a legacy likely rooted in its past as a major tuberculosis treatment center. Among its most haunted landmarks is the Hotel Saranac, which was built in 1927 on the former site of the local high school.

The spirit of former school superintendent Howard Littell is said to roam the hotel in his black suit and top hat, while guests and staff have reported other eerie happenings, such as a singing girl on the fourth floor, scratching from a long-gone cat on the third, and a ghostly teacher near the ballroom.

Even the hotel itself acknowledges its haunted reputation. Stories of unexplained footsteps, slamming doors, and flickering lights add to the enduring mystery that surrounds this historic landmark.

Astor Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Quarter [IHG One Rewards]

At the Crowne Plaza New Orleans, not every guest is said to be of this world. Established in 1852, when New Orleans earned the nickname “City of the Dead” amid a devastating yellow fever outbreak, the building didn’t become a hotel until the 1990s.

Over the years, guests and staff have reported eerie encounters: flickering lights, sudden chills, and ghostly figures that vanish in an instant. The hotel’s oldest section, the historic Alexa Tower, is said to hold the most activity, with reports of glowing orbs, heavy energy, and shadowy apparitions.

None of this feels particularly far-fetched in a city so steeped in the supernatural — one known for its voodoo queens, restless pirates, and whispered tales of vampires in the French Quarter. For those eager to explore New Orleans’ darker side, a haunted history tour or a visit to the nearby Museum of Death should do the trick.

Windsor Hotel, Americus [Choice Privileges]

Step back into 1892 at the Windsor Hotel, an Ascend Hotel Collection property that oozes Victorian charm — and comes with a few ghost stories. This five-story brick landmark in Americus, Georgia, has long been the centerpiece of downtown.

One legend tells of a housekeeper and her daughter who died after falling down an elevator shaft. Guests have since reported hearing faint footsteps and giggles echoing through empty halls.

Then there's Floyd Lowery, a longtime hotel employee whose story has become part of the Windsor's lore. Guests have reported seeing a friendly bellman resembling Floyd at the hotel long after his death.

How to book an award night at the Windsor Hotel

The Windsor Hotel is part of the Choice Privileges loyalty program, which makes it easy to book a haunted night on points. Halloween currently costs 20,000 points per night.

The Historic Brookstown Inn [Wyndham Rewards]

Originally an 1837 cotton mill, the Historic Brookstown Inn in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, blends Southern hospitality with a chilling backstory. Local legend tells of Sally, a mill worker who fell to her death near the elevator shaft — and who still makes her presence known through footsteps, laughter, and flickering lights. Guests often find the most activity in the fourth-floor hallways.

The Brookstown Inn is part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham. You can redeem 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night for a stay — including Halloween weekend.

Before redeeming, compare the points rate with the cash price. If cash rates are low, using Wyndham points may not provide particularly strong value.

Walworth Castle [Best Western Rewards]

Is a castle really a castle if reports of ghostly apparitions and spooky encounters haven't been passed down throughout its history? Walworth Castle, near Darlington in the United Kingdom, is the epitome of a haunted castle. It's full of tales of scandal and murder and is the perfect option for those looking for the fright of their life. Better yet, it might be the only hotel on this list with a dungeon in its basement.

The most notable story tells of a pregnant maid murdered by her lover, a lord. Fearing for his reputation, he fell into a rage after finding out about her pregnancy. The spirit of the maid resides in the library tower of the castle and can be heard screaming and popping out of walls.

How to book an award night at the Walworth Castle

The Walworth Castle is a bargain if you book with cash, but an even better deal if you book with Best Western Rewards points. If you check in on Oct. 31, your spooky night will cost as few as 24,000 points.

How to earn Best Western points

Similar to all of the hotels mentioned above, there are a handful of great ways to score a lot of Best Western Rewards points. However, the following two ways are the easiest:

The Fairmont Banff Springs [Accor Live Limitless]

Not only is The Fairmont Banff Springs known as one of the most luxurious hotels in Canada, but it's also known for being one of the most haunted. The hotel’s most prominent spirit is known as the “Ghost Bride,” said to be a young woman who tragically fell to her death on her wedding day in the 1920s. Guests have reported seeing her veiled figure gliding down the grand staircase or dancing alone in the ballroom, forever waiting for the first dance she never had.

There are also reports of a helpful ghostly bellhop named Sam who wanders the halls of the sixth, seventh, and ninth floors.

How to book an award night at The Fairmont Banff Springs

The Fairmont Banff Springs belongs to the Accor Live Limitless program, a revenue-based loyalty program. Instead of charging a fixed number of points for an award night, ALL points reduce the cash cost of your stay.

The Fairmont Banff Springs comes with a price tag as terrifying as the ghosts who reside there, around $795 per night (after taxes). If you want to use points to book, the property would cost ~37,000 ALL points (after currency conversions).

How to earn Accor points

The most straightforward way to earn the Accor points necessary to book a night at Fairmont Banff Springs is via transfers from partner rewards programs. Capital One miles transfer to ALL at a 2:1 ratio, while Bilt Rewards currently transfers at 3:2. Always compare the number of transferable points required with the cash price before moving rewards, since transfers are generally irreversible.

The Queen Mary

If you are looking for a truly unique experience, head to Long Beach, California, for a stay on a historic ship. Functioning as both a hotel and attraction, The Queen Mary is known for its spooky paranormal lore.

Areas aboard that are known to be haunted include the Mauretania Room, the Mayfair Room, and Shaft Alley, where a former crew member who was crushed to death by a hatch door now roams. Guests often report mysterious knocking and lights flickering.

In the fall, the Queen Mary hosts a creepy carnival of sorts, the Dark Harbor Halloween. Enjoy a spooktacular festival with haunted mazes, live entertainment, rides, and more. For 2026, Dark Harbor runs on select nights from Sept. 18 through Nov. 1.

How to book an award night at The Queen Mary

The Queen Mary is not part of a chain, but it is bookable through the Capital One Travel portal. That means that you can redeem your Capital One miles to book a stay aboard the Queen Mary!

Additionally, Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Cardholders receive an annual $300 travel credit to use on bookings through the portal. Booking this hotel could be a scary good use of that credit.

Because both room rates and portal availability vary, check your specific dates before deciding how to pay.
