 Our Take

The list of participating IHG hotels is decent this quarter, with at least 4 InterContinental properties providing an attractive option for an upmarket redemption. The list also includes some extremely well-placed properties like Holiday Inn at London Heathrow, which is perfect if you have a layover. One thing to remember is there is limited availability at each property, and the best ones are booked quickly, so if you find a room that works for you, don’t delay your booking.

  • I know it is always highly individually but I find the list this time round very good! Suits my travel plans greatly!

  • The InterContinental Sao Paulo is a great property and I expect the one is Almaty is a great choice for that city too, but my use will be at the HIE Krabi.

  • IHG is a faverite hotel. thanks for notifying.

I will stay IHG’ hotel using 5000 points upcoming holiday .

  • IHG PointBreaks is a terrific promo that I take advantage of and use often.

  • I do like these from IHG. I just have nothing left to use towards them. Nothing on the list for me to use anyway.
I love that you all remind us of these promos!

  • These are still pretty decent promotions but I find that you need to skip a few months to get healthy bonus. This time round Ill focus on Hilton.

  • I had some great redemptions over the years with the “old” points breaks and even went back to some of those properties on paid stays later. Have not found a decent redemption yet since the program was changed. Still hoping …

    • The same happened to me. For this reason I have a lot of points and I don’t find any good redemption to use them.
Of course I don’t earn any more IHG points.

  • I took a look but couldn’t find any that might work with my travel plans. I agree with the previous poster who said that this deal is definitely not what it used to be. Not a huge discount on points for the stays and availability is not great. There was one time that I did try to book — a point breaks hotel that I would not have thought was particularly desirable. Even that one was sold out almost immediately.

  • Switching to ICH for future hotel stay then!

  • HI Missoula is a nice property in a good location,

  • I was hoping for a much longer list of Points Break hotels.

  • These pointbreak deals seem to be getting worse and worse. Most of the IC properties are overseas, disappointing.

  • Several of the 10k options look good this round. Not the amazing deal it used to be, but still a great use of points.

  • The_Bouncer says:

I disagree that this list is better. Most of it is smoke and mirrors. The so-called “upmarket” properties are almost all in places with very low cash rates.

    • I agree that the best, and really only true, way to evaluate PointBreaks hotel options is to compare them to the cost of a night’s stay in cash… and the real value of the deal will be laid bare.

  • Also 2 Holiday inns in Lisbon , Good use of points for this city.

    • Accommodations in Portugal are quite affordable when they are paid with cash.

    • The_Bouncer says:

Not sure I agree with this. Cash rates for these hotels are often around the 80-100eur Mark and comparable properties in the city somewhat lower. Lisbon is not an expensive city. 15k is an ok-ish redemption, but nothing to write home about.

  • These pointsbreak deals are some of the most tempting, especially given the current increased offer on the credit card. I wish they would actually improve the benefits for their elites.

  • Steven William Van Meter says:

The key is the spend of $3,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening an account. If you’e planning a trip, that is very doable.

  • Any idea on how far out they typically release these? Looking to book some reward travel in January.

  • Only 3 IC’s I see what it used to be.on the whole list, and precious few “desirable destinations”… Pointbreaks is a shadow of what it used to be.

  • IHG PointBreaks is my favorite hotel promotion! Does each hotel decide how many rooms they will make available at the PointBreaks level?
