The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is often mentioned high on lists of great travel rewards cards. Let’s go over some of the travel benefits, purchase protection, and perks that are offered by this credit card, and perhaps this might help you decide whether the card fits your travel goals.
The Sapphire Preferred allows you to earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $750 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.
Major Travel Rewards Available
When you build up a nice balance of Ultimate Rewards, you will have many options available to you for redemption. One of the greatest things about the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card card is that you can easily combine your points from other Ultimate Rewards earning cards such as the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card and Chase Freedom®.
Additionally, you can transfer the Ultimate Rewards to many different travel partners. Transferability of points sets the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card apart from many of the other travel rewards cards available, as many of them have either no transfer options or limited choices available.
|Partner Program||Time for Points to Transfer|

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card card is ideal for use when you travel because you will not only continue to earn Ultimate Rewards, but you get some great travel protection.
You receive trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance, valued at up to $10,000 per trip. You will get lost luggage coverage, for up to 5 days at $100 per day. Your purchases will be covered in the event of theft or damage incurred during travel. The card comes with chip and signature security features, which means your personal information is protected by an extra layer of security. There are also no foreign transaction fees, and if you have ever traveled with a card that does not provide this perk, then you realize how quickly these fees can add up to a huge expense added to your vacation.
Another great travel benefit on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is rental car Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). If you decline the rental company's collision insurance and pay with your Sapphire Preferred, and you will have primary car rental insurance.
Other benefits include baggage delay reimbursement, travel accident insurance, and emergency travel insurance.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (CSP) also comes with some good purchase protection benefits. From Chase's website:
“Purchase protection covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account. Extended Warranty Protection extends the period of the U.S. manufacturer's warranty by an additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less. Price Protection if a card purchase you made in the U.S. is advertised for less in print or online within 90 days, you can be reimbursed the difference up to $500 per item, $2,500 per year. Return Protection where you can be reimbursed for eligible items that the store won't take back within 90 days of purchase, up to $500 per item, $1,000 per year.”
Great Points Earning Potential
When you consider the terrific perks that you get, especially by transferring your Ultimate Rewards to travel partners, you will quickly realize that you are going to be getting your money’s worth out of the annual fee (even more so during the first year when it costs you nothing!). So, it is also great to know that you can quickly build up the points that you need to redeem for the travel perks. You will earn one point for every dollar spent in every category, and two points for every dollar spent on dining and travel purchases.
