Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards points (formerly Mileage Plan miles) are arguably the most valuable of any airline loyalty program in the United States. With its unique array of alliance and non-alliance partners, the program has some excellent sweet spots. One of our favorites? Flying business class from the U.S. to Peru for just 35,000 points each way.
You may be thinking that Alaska Airlines doesn't fly to Peru, and you're right. Alaska's partner LATAM connects to Peru and many other destinations throughout South America. Here's all that you need to know to snag a great deal for your next trip.
Where Does LATAM Fly From the U.S.?
LATAM has three main hubs in South America with multiple connections to the U.S. Flights leave from São Paulo, Brazil (GRU), Lima, Peru (LIM), and Santiago, Chile (SCL) with connections to the following U.S. airports:
Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM)
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)

São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport (GRU)
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Book LATAM Business Class to South America From 35K Alaska Points
Alaska Airlines uses a handy, distance-based award chart to price its partner award flights. This makes it easy to know exactly how many points you'll need for a given flight.
Business class flights to South America under 4,000 miles — like those between Atlanta and Miami to Lima — price out at just 35,000 points each way and about $34 in taxes and fees.

Longer routes like this flight from New York to São Paulo cost slightly more at 50,000 points each way.

How to search for LATAM award space on Alaska
Alaska Airlines has its own easy-to-navigate award calendar where you can search for the cheapest fares. Start by conducting an award search on Alaska's website as normal. Be sure to select “use points.”

On the results page, select “calendar view” in the upper right-hand corner. This will take you to the award calendar, where you can see a month's worth of award availability.

To zero in on LATAM business class flights, filter for “partner business” using the drop-down menu. The cheapest fares are denoted with a green tag.

You can also use any of the popular award search tools, such as Point.me or Seats.aero. Both will allow you to search any of the routes and find availability.
What It's Like to Fly LATAM Business Class
Some of the best food I've ever had on board an airplane has been with LATAM. I'm a big fan of salads when I fly, and the option on the most recent flight I took kept me full throughout the flight.

Some people aren't a fan of the 2-2-2 configuration of the business class seats, but I love them. I choose the middle seats so both my husband and I can have direct aisle access, and since there is no enclosed footwell, I have no problem sleeping. At 6 foot 3 it's often a struggle finding a place for my feet, but not with LATAM.

It's important to note that on some of these routes, American Airlines — another Alaska partner — also flies its own planes. Some could be operated by American's narrow-body planes with recliner seats, so make sure to look for LATAM flights in order to get a guaranteed lie-flat service.

Bottom Line
It seems like finding great deals on business class flights are harder than ever before, especially considering that many airlines and credit card programs have devalued their miles as of late. Alaska Airlines, via their partner network, still has some of the cheapest flights around. For only 35,000 points you can fly one-way in business class from the U.S. to South America and with more than a dozen routes, finding availability shouldn't be a problem.
